The Grande Punto is a larger and stylish sub-compact relative to the old Punto mini-hatchback. It is available with two petrol engines, namely the entry-level 1.2-litre underpowered four-cylinder, and the 1.4-litre lively four-cylinder. The new Punto handles sharply, thanks to good body control, plenty of grip and quick steering response. The ride is firm, and highway cruising can get noisy. No matter which engine you go for, fuel economy is similar for both. Fiat has worked hard on the Grande Punto's reliability. The interior looks good and feels sturdy enough, but some parts feel flimsy. All models come with driver and passenger airbags which vary their deployment according to the severity of the impact, and only the entry-level trim doesn't have side and curtain airbags. Other features include a height-adjustable driver's seat and a steering wheel that moves for both reach and rake. There's plenty of space for four adults, and adequate room for a fifth. All models come with electric front windows, remote central locking, a CD player, follow-me-home lights and ABS brakes.
