Jaguar XF

The sporty XF sedan is still based on the previous S-Type's mechanicals, but it is a real step forward towards competing in the real world. While Jaguar is owned by India-based Tata now, the XF was the last car developed under Ford ownership. Carryover engines include the adequate 3.0-litre V6 and the attractive 4.2-litre V8, while the powerful supercharged 4.2-litre V8 is reserved for the SV8. All engines are mated to a ZF six-speed automatic with manual shift capability. The most interesting feature of the car is its simplistic interior which consists of toys such as a rotary-dial gear selector, hideway a/c vents and touchless operation of the glovebox and overhead lights. Depending on model, features include power seats with memory, a split-folding rear seat, automatic dual-zone climate control, trip computer, sunroof and adaptive cruise control. Safety features include stability and traction control, ABS brakes and numerous airbags. Other available features include satellite navigation, power-adjustable foot pedals, self-leveling xenon headlights, rain-sensing wipers, front and rear parking sensors, leather upholstery, keyless entry and start, sports suspension and other options.

Jaguar X-Type

The X-Type is an elegant entry-level Jaguar that loses none of its charm thanks to great styling and suspension tuning. It is, however, based on the lowly Ford Mondeo platform, as evidenced by a front-wheel-drive base model. The higher models do benefit from full-time all-wheel drive, which improves traction in all road conditions. Sold mainly in sedan guise regionally, the basic front-driven car can be had with a 2.1-litre V6, while the all-wheel-drive models can be had with either a 2.5-litre V6 or a 3.0-litre V6. All cars land in this region with a five-speed automatic gearbox, though you could probably special-order a manual version if you really wanted one. Features include leather-trimmed seating, and power-operated windows, mirrors, door locks and driver's seat. All X-Types are also equipped with automatic climate control, remote locking, an auto-dimming interior mirror, tilt/telescope steering wheel and alloy wheels. Available features include a moonroof, Xenon headlights, parking sensors, navigation system and larger wheels. The sports package offers a mesh grille, a deeper front spoiler and lower side sills, a rear spoiler, sport-tuned suspension, 18-inch wheels and high-performance tyres. Safety features include various airbags, ABS brakes and a stability control system.

Jaguar XJ-Series

The XJ remains the luxury flagship of the Jaguar range. It is a truly handsome large car, with elegant lines rather than the random curves of its German rivals. The XJ-Series comes in regular and long-wheelbase versions, depending on model. While the sportier option would be the standard-wheelbase models, the long-wheelbase models offer enough rear-seat room to recline and watch a movie while having lunch on a tray. The Jaguar XJ8 was launched as an all-new model for 2003, along with the high-performance XJR, offering superior ride and handling to their predecessors thanks to their rigid lightweight aluminium structure and computer-controlled suspension. Other model variations include the XJ6, the XJ8 Sovereign and the Super V8. Engines include the 3.0-litre V6, the 3.6-litre V6, the 4.2-litre V8 and the supercharged 4.2-litre V8, all mated to a six-speed automatic. Standard are leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats, dual-zone climate control, alloy wheels, and an eight-speaker stereo with CD player. Available features include self-leveling air suspension, adaptive suspension damping, dynamic stability control, xenon headlamps, navigation, power-adjustable foot pedals, an electronic parking brake, and reverse park assist. Safety features standard on all models include frontal, side-impact and side-curtain airbags, ABS brakes and electronic stability control.

Jaguar XK-Series

The all-new Jaguar XK is the long-awaited successor to Jaguar's sports car franchise, and though its new face is decidedly controversial, it is still a very desirable car. The new-for-2007 XK comes as both a coupe and a convertible. Riding on a much longer wheelbase, the new aluminium-built XK offers substantially more interior space than the old model. The XK 4.2 model is powered by the corporate 4.2-litre V8, while the XKR gets a supercharged version of that engine. Both engines are mated to a six-speed manual gearbox with paddle shifters. Its rigid chassis and the latest CATS adaptive suspension aim for a smooth ride and sporty cornering. Standard equipment includes DVD navigation, keyless entry and keyless start, a seven-inch video display, Bluetooth capability, cruise control, a 6-CD/MP3 player, rear park assist, cruise control, and electronic parking brake. Options include adaptive cruise control with a forward-alert system that sounds an audible warning, full soft leather upholstery, and a 520-watt Alpine sound system with eight speakers. Safety feature include front and side airbags, ABS with EBD, traction control, dynamic stability control with a track feature, and electronic rollover mitigation.
