Completely redesigned for the 2008 model year, the Cherokee
is tougher than most compact 4WDs. Also known
as the Liberty in some markets, it seats five people and can carry their gear
too. Powered by a 3.7-litre V6, it is mated to a 4-speed automatic. Fold the
rear seats and it can move two people and their cargo.
The entry-level Sport has a body-coloured grille, while the upscale Limited has
a chrome grille. Turn off the pavement, and it can negotiate most trails with confidence.
All models come with stability control, ABS brakes, Electronic Roll Mitigation,
front airbags, available side airbags, and all-speed traction control. Standard
on all models is a full-time four-wheel-drive system with low-range gearing.
Available features also include power windows, power mirrors, remote keyless entry, CD stereo,
cruise control, parking sensors, rain-sensing wipers, 17-inch or 18-inch wheels, and
a cloth or faux-leather interior, among other items. Options include a trick
roof that can open the full length of the ceiling to the elements.

Jeep Commander
The new Commander is the first Jeep that offers three-row seating and the ability to carry seven passengers.
Available with either a 4.7-litre V8 or a 5.7-litre Hemi V8, they are both mated to a five-speed automatic transmission,
and both offer similar fuel economy. Standard is Jeep's Quadra-Trac I, which is an automatic full-time all-wheel-drive system enhanced by electronic traction control.
Other standard features on the Commander include AM/FM stereo with CD player, power windows, power mirrors, power eight-way driver's seat, flipper glass on the liftgate with remote control, all-terrain tyres on 17-inch aluminium wheels, tyre-pressure monitoring, and
cruise control.
The higher-trim Commander comes with the Hemi V8 with fuel-saving Multi-Displacement System technology, a full-time active 4WD system
known as Quadra-Trac II, that has a two-speed transfer case with front and rear electronic limited-slip differentials, dual-zone temperature control, leather-trimmed bucket seats with memory, power adjustable pedals, power sunroof, power
front seats and a six-disc in-dash CD player with MP3 capability. Options
include rear DVD and 17-inch chrome wheels.
Safety includes ABS, electronic stability control, Brake Assist, and numerous
airbags.

Jeep Compass
The Compass is an all-new compact all-wheel-drive 4WD that throws Jeep's off-road reputation out the window. It is based on the Dodge Caliber and features Jeep styling cues such as a seven-slot grille and round headlights. The windshield is steeply raked and the lower than that of a traditional 4WD, but it comes with sculpted fenders, standard 17-inch wheels or optional 18-inch wheels, and a simulated locking differential. The Compass is powered by a 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine with either a standard 5-speed manual transmission or an optional second-generation CVT automatic transmission. The Compass Limited with CVT offers the AutoStick feature that allows drivers to control the transmission manually so that it simulates a 6-speed gearbox. The full-time active four-wheel-drive system includes a “Lock” mode for use on low-traction surfaces. Standard equipment includes side-curtain airbags, ESP, traction control, fog lights and a fabric interior. Other features include a built-in flashlight, flip-down rear speakers in the tailgate, and power features.

Jeep Grand Cherokee
The Grand Cherokee was all-new for the 2006 model year, and
for 2008, it has been
updated with a new front end, HID headlights with integrated turn
lenses and new 17-inch and 18-inch wheels. Interior updates include a new centre
console and a four-gauge instrument cluster with LED
illumination.
It continues with an upgraded 4.7-litre V8, a carryover 5.7-litre Hemi V8 and an
SRT-exclusive 6.1-litre V8. Cloth upholstery is standard,
as are power windows, power locks with remote keyless entry, eight-way power driver's seat, CD audio, driver information center, 60/40 split folding rear seat, and
available parking sensors. All models offer full-time four-wheel drive, with low-range gearing.
Higher models get leather upholstery, Boston Acoustics six-speaker six-CD changer and MP3 capability, power adjustable pedals, power
front seats, rain-sensing automatic wipers, electrochromic rearview mirror, tyre pressure monitor with display, adjustable roof rack crossrails,
and more.
The fancy Overland model adds real wood accents on the doors and console, two-tone leather and ultra-suede seats, leather-covered console and armrest, reverse-parking sensor
and more. The rocket-like SRT-8 gets stiff suspension for the road, but gives up
its off-road ability. Safety features include a stability system with roll mitigation, ABS brakes with brake assist, traction control, and
numerous airbags.

Jeep Patriot
The Patriot is an all-new compact all-wheel-drive 4WD that, like the Compass, is based on the Dodge Caliber and features Jeep styling cues such as a seven-slot grille and round headlights. Unlike the Compass, the Patriot attempts to retain some features of a traditional 4WD, such as decent ground clearance and short overhangs. The all-wheel-drive Patriot is powered by a 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine with either a standard 5-speed manual transmission or an optional second-generation CVT automatic transmission. The Patriot is available in very bare Sport trim and loaded Limited trim. The full-time active four-wheel-drive system includes a “Lock” mode for use on low-traction surfaces. The optional off-road package has simulated low-range gearing using the CVT gearbox. Standard equipment includes side-curtain airbags, ESP, traction control and a fabric interior. Other features include a built-in flashlight, flip-down rear speakers in the tailgate, 17-inch alloy wheels and power features.

Jeep Wrangler
The Wrangler has been redesigned for 2007, with a stiffer frame, revised suspension, a new engine, and fresh styling. The all-new
real jeep is longer and wider, more refined, and for the first time, offers
either two or four doors. Now powered by a 3.8-litre V6, with a manual or
automatic, it still offers low-range gearing and off-road capability.
The lengthened four-door wheelbase also provides room for a three-wide rear seat in the new Unlimited, making for five-passenger capability.
It also offers more ground clearance, more wheel articulation and some new suspension hardware. For the first time, the Wrangler offers an optional electronic-disconnecting front stabilizer bar. This Active Sway Bar System allows more front-wheel travel for overcoming extremely challenging off-pavement obstacles. Also available is the Command-Trac part-time four-wheel-drive system. A Trak-Lok limited slip differential and Rock-Trac with special off-road tyres also are available.
Safety includes Electronic Stability Program, ABS brakes and a bunch of airbags.
It can be equipped with a new three-piece hardtop with removable panels. Also available is a Sunrider
soft top with a sunroof feature.
