The Maybach was originally built for the ultra-rich back before World War II. Mercedes-Benz has revived the brand for the ultra-rich of today, as “a business jet on wheels,” according to the company, and quite rightly so. The Maybach is offered in three versions currently. The Maybach 57 is the short wheelbase model, which is still very large, and this body style comes in either standard 57 trim with a 5.5-litre turbocharged V12, or in 57 S trim with a 6.0-litre turbocharged V12. The long wheelbase version is the Maybach 62, which only comes with a 5.5-litre V12. All models utilise a five-speed automatic and rear-wheel-drive. Standard features include massive seats, leather interior and wood all over. The cars can be customised according to fat-cat customer wishes, including real gold interior trim, special paint finishes, TV tuner, DVD player, CD changer, telephone, Dolby surround sound system, panoramic glass roof, and, especially for the 62, reclining rear seats. Safety features include all the requisite equipment, including a multitude of airbags and electronic stability systems.
