Being a slow month for anything related to cars, due to the long holidays, I went about reviewing my own 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.7 Limited. Having had it for only 3 months, this is my longest review ever, but it is important to fight back some of the negative commentary I received for buying it instead of just another anonymous Toyota or Nissan cramming the roads. Here’s some rare footage of the Bugatti Veyron actually doing what it is supposed to do. Being driven full-throttle at the Nurburgring racetrack in Germany, it looks sharp and would make any owner think it is money well spent. But then check out the mysterious car that shows up near the end. Is that an early prototype of some Japanese supercar?
I was highlighting some time ago how the 2009 Nissan GT-R outran many high-dollar exotics at the Nurburgring racetrack in Germany, with a time of 7:38 minutes, better than the Porsche 911 Turbo and the overhyped Audi R8. However, the pricier Porsche 911 GT2 is even faster, at 7:32 minutes. But another upcoming Japanese car is already running circles around it. The prototype Lexus LF-A posted a time of 7:24 minutes, in full camouflage no less. Read more… »
The Mercedes-Benz SLK has been facelifted for the 2009 model year (or 2008, as they say in European markets). The tweaks include a front end in the style of an F1 car, while the rear gets edged tailpipes and a new bumper. The 2009 model also gets an updated interior with a new instrument panel design. Two new engines also join the line-up. Read more… »

BMW has announced that they will publicly debut their new X6 “sport activity coupe” at the Detroit Auto Show in January 2008. They have, however, released details on this confused vehicle, which will be powered by a 3.0-litre turbo-I6 and a 4.4-litre turbo-V8. Read more… »
The Bugatti Veyron was the fastest car in the world for a brief period. It is said that the car can burn through an entire tank of fuel in 12 minutes at top speed. So it is probably a good idea to keep track of your fuel gauge if you plan on driving this thing around.
Sales of the overtly retro Ford Mustang is down 19% this year in the United States. The car is becoming boring as everyone seems to have one. To beef up interest, Ford is offering a US$ 1,995 (Dhs 7,300) glass roof option for the 2008 model. Read more… »

So I just saw my parents off at the airport for their Hajj flight. I had half a mind to go too, but I have too much work both online and offline to take any trips right now. I am going to start a massive new project for this website that should help out a lot of car-buying people. But I wanted your inputs on what additional features you’d also like to see on DriveArabia. Speeding in Abu Dhabi may lead to jail-time and confiscation of vehicles as the Traffic and Patrol Division of the AD Police is apparently cracking down on reckless drivers. Warning that strict measures have been put in place to arrest such motorists, the police said some of the drivers go up to dangerous speeds of 200 kph. But more importantly, those caught driving dangerously will now have to spend one day cleaning the roads and another day cleaning a school. They will also spend one week in prison. Read more… »

Considering the social situation in their country, the young men of Saudi Arabia vent their energy and frustration in unusual ways. But if “Saudi” drifting gets too boring, they go to even more extremes. Like “Saudi” skating, for instance.
The capital of Saudi Arabia will be hosting the Riyadh Motor Show 2007, from the 9th to the 13th of December, at the Riyadh Exhibition Centre. While we expect no women in skimpy clothes on the stands, we don’t expect any women drivers to be there either. However, this reminded us of this year’s Dubai Motorshow, and thought we’d publish some numbers about the most expensive cars shown there. Read more… »
According to an article in Gulf News, plain-clothes RTA officials have been going around Dubai fining people for simply sharing a car to get to the office. Basically, even if they see you picking up your buddy on the side of the road, you could be slapped with a Dhs 5000 fine. And I can bet you they are probably targetting people with economy cars. Like the trusty old Toyota Corolla that my family owns. Read more… »
I updated the Future Car Preview page, seeing as how a lot has changed over the last few months. Release dates have been added to some of the confirmed cars. For example, the Nissan GT-R will come to the GCC in the beginning of 2009 at the earliest. Other new vehicles include the Ford Flex and the Volvo C50. Read more… »

The classic movie is often credited for creating the car-chase movie genre. Read more… »
We haven’t asked for a Hyundai tester in ages because, well, who wants to drive a Hyundai? But at last month’s Los Angeles Auto Show, Hyundai officially showed off their new rear-wheel-drive Genesis coupe, but in so-called “concept” form. This is basically a weak disguise with paint and stickers to show off the tuning potential of the car. Read more… »
