BMW Z4 sDrive35is debuting as 2011 model

2011 BMW Z4 sDrive35is
Introduced less than a year ago, the all-new BMW Z4 range will have another model in its line-up, although it still won’t be an M version. Instead, it will the confusingly-named 2011 BMW Z4 sDrive35is. That little ‘s’ at the end of its name means a bit of extra performance over the sDrive35i, while an optional new M-Sport package will give it a more aggressive look. The Z4 sDrive35is is making its world debut at the 2010 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit.

The 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-6 engine in the Z4 sDrive35is is capable of 335 hp at 5900 rpm. Peak torque is increased to 450 Nm from 1500 rpm to 4500 rpm. The enhanced ECU includes an electronically-controlled overboost function to briefly increase torque under full load by another 50 Nm, to a temporary torque peak of 500 Nm. The gearbox of choice is a 7-speed “DCT” dual-clutch automanual with launch control. The BMW Z4 sDrive35is is therefore apparently capable of 0-100 kph in 4.7 seconds. Top speed of the BMW Z4 sDrive35is is limited electronically to 250 kph.

Also standard are overdone “EfficientDynamics” gimmicks such as brake energy regeneration and electric power steering to save fuel.

The BMW Z4 sDrive35is includes new M Sport upgrades such as M aerodynamics and adaptive M suspension. The adaptive M suspension combines a ride-height reduction of 10 mm with electronically-controlled shock absorbers to improve the vehicle’s agility without compromising ride comfort.

Special 18-inch alloy wheels are standard on the Z4 sDrive35is, with 19-inch wheels available as an option. In addition to its unique wheels, the new model is further distinguished by a new front bumper with a matte aluminium trim bar in each outer air intake, a rear bumper with accentuated surrounds on the tailpipes, and a different rear diffuser. The optional M Sport package also has aerodynamically optimised exterior features and customized interior components.
