Honda Civic 2012 officially announced in UAE & GCC

We’ve already known for months now that the first shipment of 2012 Honda Civic sedans were on sale in the UAE quietly. According to Honda, the Japanese carmaker “faced immense challenges in its production capabilities due to the earthquake & tsunami disasters in March 2011.” Honda was in short supply of the new models, so they did not actively advertise the fact that limited numbers were already available, which was likely sold out easily enough. But Honda has now released full details about their new model.

The shape of the 2012 Honda Civic looks similar to the previous one, but structurally, the front A-pillars were moved forward and the rear C-pillars were moved backwards. Interior passenger volume has improved by 104.7 litres with gains in the shoulder, front and rear hip rooms. The new Civic retains the two-tiered instrument panel. The boot is also larger.

The 2012 Civic has a 1.8-litre 4-cylinder SOHC i-VTEC engine with 139 hp at 6,500 rpm and 174 Nm of torque at 4,300 rpm, with a 5-speed automatic and front-wheel-drive, all pretty much the same as before. However, the new model boasts better fuel economy due to various weight-reducing and aerodynamic measures.

Available new features include a new Intelligent Multi-Information Display (i-MID) standard on EXI and VTI, which displays a wide variety of driver’s selected information including Audio, Trip computer, Fuel economy, HFT, and Clock. The display can also be personalised by uploading a wallpaper of choice. An Econ mode is standard on all grades to help improve fuel efficiency by controlling the AC compressor load and changing the engine throttle characteristics. Also, in choosing to drive in an Econ mode, it helps improve the driving habits by observing the ambient lights guide.

The EXI and VTI also get a standard rear-view camera, Bluetooth phone, USB port, cruise control, 60/40 split-folding rear seat, 6-speaker stereo and 16-inch alloy wheels. The base LXi gets 15-inch steel wheels with hubcaps and a 2-speaker CD/MP3 stereo, but retains power windows, disc brakes and keyless entry. A sunroof and fog lights are optional on the EXi and standard on the VTi. The VTi additionally gets HID headlights and auto a/c.

In terms of safety, all Civics get front airbags, ABS with EBD, front active headrests and even stability control. The VTi additionally gets side and curtain airbags.

The base LXi is priced at Dhs 75,000, while the EXi can be had for Dhs 80,000. The EXi with a sunroof and foglamps goes for Dhs 85,000, while the VTi is priced at a whopping Dhs 90,000 in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

  1. AED90,000 O_O

    • U gotta be kidding me…. 90K???

Last time im ever considering a Japanese brand in this market.. Im going to buy a VW instead, wtih the passat at 70K.. Its more affordable, cheaper to maintain plus its looks and drives better than a japanese car..
      Or a Ford..

The Jetta starts at 70k, not the Passat. I’ve actually met a lot of people making that mistake. Must be the billboard ads.

  2. I bought a 2011 Nissan Altima (black color) for AED 85,400. The car is full options 2.5l.

This is bad bad pricing from Honda.
They are pricing like the germans with a civic vti being more expensive than a 2011 altima 2.5l full option.

Are they competing with 1-series,mini cooper,vw golf????

  3. damn 90k is ridiculous!!

  4. There is no wonder for the price, even now the same price for the current model… Honda is expensive man… Dont compare it to Nissan…

  5. New H civic looks like co brother of H city… Next Honda will change the Accord to look like big brother of Honda City for a hefty price of 120K+… Hope Japanese gone mad after seeing the SKoreans design in their new cars.

  6. for such a price better consider other cars like VW Jetta,Volvo S40.

  7. stilll 80’s gearboxxx!!!!!!!! this car is for people aged over 50 years,
    i don’t understand why honda don’t include tiptronic?? it is a 90 k car !!!
a chevrolet cruze looks way better than this ugly car and it is for sure cheaperrr!!!

  8. Initial reviews are criticising this Civic; Consumer Reports have even removed it from their recommended cars list.
The last Civic was a huge step up for Honda and this is the exact opposite. And 90k is ridicukous when you can have a Taurus for 84k, an Altima with all bells and whistles for 85k…

  9. Pricy and taurus is a better option at that price sure. Yet I dont know if the higher trim features leather upholstery and electric seats? Also rear view camera is a good option anyway the taurus gets it in the dashboard only at the pricy LTZ trim

  10. and yes,by the way…anybody knows whether the coupe is coming?..thanks

  11. u get a full option elantra for 64K…full option kia optima for 89K…ppl must be out of mind to buy this shit box with an outdated engine and transmission….

  12. u need a magnifier lens to understand the difference between the last gen civic and the new civic….honda is going backwards i guess….thank god atleast their prices are moving forward…

  13. Its the Japanese Yen thats killing both Toyota and Honda .. Nissan was lucky to have shifted the production base of most of its vehicles to the US.

  14. ummmmm Nice design,horrible price!

    thats the conclusion i think.

  15. I assume its the dealer’s fault that is selling for such a ridiculous price tag..

  16. 90K???? That’s Accord territory. BTW, loved the dash how it envelopes the driver.

  17. 1.8ltr and 90k. well priced,

    serious NASA shit!!

  18. no matter what we all say about the looks, price or features, it won’t surprise me if i see some one driving it:p

  19. Damn expensive this is..the new VW jetta looks much appealing, much safer starting at just 70K!! afterall its a German Car

  20. Dear All,

Honda is one of the best in Japanese car. Indeed, we cannot compare wiht German/French car makers such as Volkwagen or Volvo.

But, I have expereinced many car and Honda is the best…

German/French car are good, safe and relaible but the price high and even maintainance crazy. One must experience prior to say/comments and the out come will be different… So get one and try out… Cheerz 😉

    • Yet is costs more to buy and costs more to service on the long run than a VW with a 5 year service contract and roadside assistance.. And its boring to look at and drive.. Plus the build quality of new civics does not compare to a VW jetta..

I will not buy an entry model Japanese car anymore.. Its a poor bargain..

    • dude ROJ..get your facts right buddy..you have no idea what a Honda Civic is..with that space-age I-VTEC 1.8 engine, the Civic leaves an F1 car in dust. if you ever drive it into an airstrip, it will even take off from there without you having to do anything and rival A380’s in the sky in tech, airspeed and luxury. It is more reliable than your own organs and can even be maintained with rat poop instead of fluids and oils! Maybach and Rolls Royce are dying to borrow tech from Honda to make their cars as luxurious while Ferrari is the first in waiting list to get hold of their I-Vtec technology so that they can regain their winning streaks in every F1 races. Mercs and BMWs are literally on the feet of Honda’s CEO for receiving a crash course on reliability and interior quality. Lol! 😀

    • Hellboy, would be great if you share that bong with us.. Then we can all fly in a sky full of Civics..

  21. The old Honda Civic was far better model than the present 2012 model… the look of the latter is not at all pleasing one.. better to go for a second hand civic rather than spending 90 k.
Honda civic was my dream car, bcoz of its Interiors and exterior looks, but the 2012 model has made me to change my opinion.

  22. Y shud we go for civic for 90 k if we can have camry or accord for the same; only difference is the fuel-economy. In a long run for daily commuters-long distance drives, comfort shud also be considered. For 90 k we can go for camry/accord which has almost similar fuel economy as civic/corolla.

    Comments pls.

    • You don’t have to buy the 90k civic. If you just want fuel economy there is a base Civic LXi for 75k. A basic camry/accord is for around 90k.

On the other hand, the Nissan Altima is a major factor to killing Civic sales as it also costs around 75k. A bigger, faster car with similar maintenance costs. Not as economical and slightly less comfortable than the civic however.
