Bentley Continental V8 debut at Detroit Auto Show

Bentley is gearing up for the 2012 Detroit Auto Show to unveil a new range of Continental GT and Continental GTC models, sporting an all-new V8 engine and complementing the flagship W12 Continental models.

The new V8 engine from Bentley is a 4.0-litre turbocharged unit featuring direct-injection and delivering a maximum power of 500 hp at 6000 rpm, and 660 Nm of torque available between 1700 and 5000 rpm. Mated to a close-ratio 8-speed automatic transmission, the V8 Continental GT coupe and Continental GTC convertible models are claimed to do the 0-100 kph run in less than 5 seconds before soaring to a claimed top-speed of over 290 kph. Bentley further claims that their new V8 engine achieves exceptional fuel economy, enabling these new V8 Continental models to travel over 800 km on a single tank of fuel. The official performance figures are yet to be revealed by the manufacturer.

Both the Bentley Continental GT coupe and the Bentley Continental GTC convertible V8 models feature all-wheel-drive system, variable displacement featuring a sophisticated engine management system which can deactivate up to four cylinders depending on throttle inputs, red Bentley “B” badges, and a choice of 20-inch or 21-inch alloy wheels.

The new Bentley Continental V8 is expected to go on sale during early 2012, before reaching the UAE, Saudi Arabia and rest of the GCC by late next year.

  1. Doesnt sound like a bad idea at all.. The W12 was an atomic engine..

But there is this one thing i really got disappointed in this bentley, the central dash where the button and screen is, feels a bit plasticy compared to the rest of the leathery, woody interior..

  2. The dash looks plasticky and cheap, nothing majestic about it. That’s just disappointing. very disappointing.

    • I have seem the interior and drove the car personally… I actually drove the 60 year edition..
The interior is genuine with exception for the buttons at the center of the dash where the screen and a/c controllers are.. This area is just made of plain dull plastic like that of a mid-range car..
