2013 Subaru BRZ STI set for release next year

The Subaru BRZ STI is nearing its debut sometime next year and unlike popular belief, it will not be getting a turbocharged motor, but rather some performance tweaks to get more power out of the current 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine.

When we hear STI, our mind wanders to cars with an all-wheel drive system and a turbocharged engine, due to the rich rallying heritage of the Subaru WRX STI. However, that will not be the case for the BRZ STI, with space constraints in the engine bay ruling out a turbo setup.

Instead, the variable valve control system will be tweaked, while the rev limit is said to go beyond the 7500 rpm redline. Also some exhaust modifications will be done, all of which should raise the power from the current 197 hp to 220-230 hp. Handling wise, the springs and dampers will be upgraded and the STI will sit on 18-inch alloy wheels, with wider tyres. Better four-piston STI brakes will be added as well, but there won’t be all-wheel-drive.

Visual upgrades to the exterior include most notably the big rear wing in true Sti style, side skirts, modified grille and a front lip spoiler.

Expect to see the Subaru BRZ STI in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and other GCC countries by next year.

  1. 30 HP should be good enough for its size. If it can do 0-60 in 6.5-6.8 seconds I will be more than happy given the exceptional handling of the car! But 250 HP would be just fantastic!

Hope this doesnt take the price too high! Anything between 135 – 143k AED is ok, but no more!

  2. Well, I think the price should be AED 130k max.

  3. The car’s chassis is a master piece for such a price.. Adding AWD and a Turbo could actually kill the whole well balanced formula so they played it right.
