Lexus planning to launch new small SUV

Lexus NX
Lexus is planning to launch a new entry-level crossover by the end of the year, according to Lexus International executive vice president Kazuo Ohara.

In an interview with the Drive show, Ohara claimed a small crossover for the global market seems like a promising option. He did not give any more details but said the SUV could in be line for a debut around November, in time for the 2013 Tokyo Auto Show.

Speculation suggests it could be based on the new Toyota RAV-4. They recently trademarked the names NX 200t and NX 300h, which means the new SUV could be offered with a turbocharged 2.0-litre engine, while the other one could be a 2.5-litre hybrid.

  1. They should launch an RX based Toyota version first… they don’t have a mid/full crossover car with a streamlined design like for example Mazda CX9, Ford Edge… they only have the Prado which is too boxy to be a crossover !!

  2. FINALLY!

The MAJOR reason for the downfall of the RX was the inability to compete with the 2.0 4-POT Audi q5!

Downsizing is the way to go!! Good luck Lexus!!!

    • The RX is indeed a very small seller here, but it still sells twice as many as the Q5 in the UAE, according to sales figures. In the US, the RX is the top-selling Lexus.

  3. subcompact SUV such as CRV and TIguan, has been a very important segment worldwide, especially in US, Euro and China. So Lexus need one model to compete with X1, Q3, Benz, LIncon and Land Rover are also planing to develop sub compact SUV.

  4. I am very interested to know when Lexus LF-NX will be launched in UAE.

  5. What will be the approximate price of NX?
