Datsun goes live in India with the new Go

2013 Datsun Go
Ever since Nissan had announced the revival of their long-shelved brand ‘Datsun’, we were intrigued. It is not exactly what we had in mind with the release of the new Datsun Go.

The budget-minded Go is set to take charge of the sub-compact hatchback segment in India. But as it goes, the Go, was designed to pay tribute to the very first Datsun, the ‘DAT-GO’.

But, don’t step inside the Go and expect beautiful hides or brushed metals. Remember, it’s being sold in India. The instrument cluster features a simple speedometer, while the 5-speed manual and the centre stack above it look rather barren. It does pack a few luxuries though. You get iPod-style connectivity through a Mobile Docking Station.

The five-seater, five-door Go is powered by a 1.2-litre engine. The power outputs and the number of cylinders haven’t been revealed yet though. But, what we do know is that the console mounted 5-speed manual is the only transmission choice, so far. It’s positioning is said to maximize space for the two front-row occupants. And by the looks of it, it seems pretty roomy.

The Datsun Go will arrive in Indian dealerships by early 2014. We are not expecting the Go, or any of Datsun’s new products here in the GCC anytime in the near future.

What do you think?
