Volvo XC90 2015 previewed in XC Coupe concept

Volvo Concept XC Coupe XC90
Volvo will unveil its new Concept XC Coupe next week at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show. It is intended to hint at the design direction for the next-generation Volvo XC90.

If you remember, the Volvo XC90 is their 4-door midsize crossover SUV that’s been virtually unchanged, save for minor updates, for the past decade. Ironically, it is also one of their top-selling vehicles in the GCC.

Based on Volvo’s “Scalable Product Architecture”, the Concept XC Coupe previews the 2015 XC90’s styling cues, but with only two doors and a 4-seater cabin, just to keep that mystery alive.

Volvo intends to power their entire range with only a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged engine in several states of tune, so you can expect one to be under this one’s bonnet as well. The top version of that engine makes 302 hp with the help of an additional supercharger.

The XC “Coupe” seems to share a similar nose to their earlier full-size coupe concept, so expect to see the new upright nose on future models. The actual XC90, developed in association with Chinese parent-company Geely, is expected to debut by the end of 2014.

What do you think?
