Ford F-150 2015 completely redesigned with new tech

2015 Ford F-150
It was only a few months ago that we had seen the Ford Atlas Concept at the 2013 Dubai Motor Show, a thinly-disguised version of the next-generation Ford F-150 truck. Little did we know that it was so close to the reveal in production form. The all-new 2015 model is debuting at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show, boasting technical upgrades that are completely new to the American truck segment.

The biggest news is that the 2015 Ford F-150 has lost more than 300 kg in weight, mostly with the use of an aluminium body, and some with the use of high-strength steel in the ladder-box frame. Ford claims the aluminium bits are nearly military-grade, while the frame is as strong as some rivals’ heavy-duty trucks.

There are new engine options on offer – a 2.7-litre Ecoboost unit and a naturally aspirated 3.5-litre V6 motor. The 5.0-litre V8 remains in the line-up but the 6.2-litre V8 has been dropped. Horsepower and torque ratings have not been revealed yet.

Inside, an optional 8-inch display can run a number of ‘TruckApps’. There is also an optional 360-degree camera added to the new F-150, a segment first. An optional panoramic roof is available as well.

Five variants will be available on sale in the U.S. during the fourth quarter of 2014, namely the base XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch and Platinum. It should be available in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and other GCC countries next year.

Keep track of updates and prices in the Ford F-150 buyer guide.

  1. I don’t like the design, also the new engine which is 2.7 isn’t suitable for full-size truck.

    • completely disagree re 2.7l – assuming it is tacted properly, even smaller engines can be sufficiently powerful and especially be ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY!!

agree re design, looks too blocky i think

    • The ecoboost line of engines are basically Ford’s version of turbocharged motors, twin-turbos if i’m not wrong! With careful tuning, it can do wonders which a V8 cannot do without sacrifising a good deal of fuel!

  2. The 2.7 litre ecoboost is comparable to other v8 engine trucks…..just how the ford mustang will be getting the 2.3 litre ecoboost
