Nurburgring times are a dime-a-dozen, but it’s a special occasion when a muscle-car like the Shelby GT350R manages to post a time that’s better than a Ferrari 458 Italia.

There was a lot of hype surrounding the Chevy Camaro Z/28 when it clocked a ‘Ring lap time of 7 minutes and 37.47 seconds a year ago, but now, word is the upcoming 2015 Ford Mustang GT350R has murdered that sorry excuse of a record already, by shaving more than 5 seconds off that time — an eternity in terms of lap times.

According to Evo UK magazine, the new Ford Shelby GT350R Mustang has lapped the famed racetrack in a claimed 7:32.19, which is not far off from what the early Nissan GT-R versions used to do.

With “more than” 500 hp and 500 Nm from a 5.2-litre V8, the lightweight Mustang variant’s final horsepower and torque figures have still not been revealed. While we still haven’t taken a liking to the new-generation Mustang, it is indeed shaping up to be a quite the proper sports car.

What do you think?
