Cadillac officially unveiled the full-size 2016 CT6 at the 2015 New York Auto Show. It is the American luxury brand’s new flagship sedan.

Looking at the exterior dimensions, the new CT6 is about the size of the short-wheel base BMW 7-Series. The interior boasts all upscale materials, which also include the CUE entertainment system and a 10.2-inch screen. It will also get features such as wireless smartphone charger and a centre console mounted touchpad controller.

There will also be different interior packages, such as the Articulating Rear Seat package, which features individual rear seats with 3.3-inches of travel, heating, cooling and massage functions. The package also includes a centre-armrest with HDMI and USB ports. The optional rear seat entertainment system gets 10-inch screens that pop out from the front seatbacks.

Other luxury features include the 34-speaker Bose Panaray premium audio system or the Quadzone climate system which features a secondary HVAC system that allows passengers to personalize the temperature and airflow for each seating position.

Under the hood, the CT6 can be had with either a 265 hp turbocharged 2.0-litre 4-cylinder, a naturally-aspirated 335 hp 3.6-litre V6 or a twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 with 400 hp and 543 Nm of torque. The V6 models will come to the GCC with all-wheel-drive as standard.

Safety features in the CT6 include a 360-degree camera and a night vision system that can identify people and animals via their heat signatures which are displayed on a screen in the instrument cluster. There’s also an Advanced Park Assist system with auto-braking and a Pedestrian Collision Mitigation system which alerts the driver about nearby pedestrians and can automatically brake the car to attempt to prevent a collision.

The 2016 Cadillac CT6 could make its debut in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and other GCC countries early next year. There are also reports that the front-wheel-drive Cadillac XTS will continue as some sort of sister model until it gets permanently phased out in 2019. Word is the CT6 marks a new naming convention for Cadillac that will see the CTS and ATS nameplates being replaced as well. That can’t be a good idea, considering how well it’s gone for Infiniti.
