Long-term update: Our Patrol suffers from sibling rivalry

Our Patrol LE has been chugging along perfectly fine, but it’s not had much use ever since we bought the Chrysler 300 SRT a few months ago. While we were still getting over the euphoria of buying Mopar muscle, our Patrol went in for service in May.

The Patrol isn’t doing much mileage, but it was time for its second six-monthly service already (as per the dealer schedule if you take the synthetic-oil option). The “20K” service included 5W30 oil and other unspecified service for Dhs 1,294.

The faulty fuel-gauge issue from last time had cropped up soon after the last “reset” was done at the earlier service, so they reset it again and assured us it will be fine. It’s fine so far.

Our dealer-installed leatherette seat covers are holding up well, except that the driver’s seat bottom had developed frayed tubing on the outer edge. The dealer replaced the seat-bottom cover for free.

Nothing else has changed on our car. So far, so good. It’s even riding better nowadays compared to when we first got it, as the suspension loosens up.

  1. good to hear about your Patrol Mash! will you be doing one on the Mercedes you just sold? Im really looking forward to your opinion on Japanese Imports!

  2. I remember you saying that the fuel economy should get better with time, but it seems to be averaging the same? Driving style or Thirsty?

    • We always expected it to take up to 10,000 km, although looking at the higher-mileage Nismo Patrol we drove the other day, it won’t be a huge difference.

  3. Would you recommend Patrol or Land Cruiser?

  4. Are the sunshade worthy I see u use them quite often?
