MG RX5 crossover revealed at Saudi Motor Show

The new MG RX5 compact crossover was revealed at this year’s Saudi International Motor Show, marking the latest entry in the Chino-British brand’s march towards relevance in the mainstream GCC market.

There will be a choice of two well-equipped trims with two available powertrains, and prices start at around Dhs 52,000 for the 1.5T model.

The MG RX5 is available with LED headlamps, two-tone 18-inch rims, high-quality cabin finish including soft-touch surfaces, opening panoramic sunroof, adjustable fold-flat rear seats with split/fold function, power tailgate, keyless entry, a start button and an auto-hold brake function.

A remote smart app allows the driver to operate vehicle functions such as remote start and stop air conditioning, vehicle tracking and aftersales appointments, even reminding owners of the services needed for the car. There is a 10.4-inch high-definition infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and navigation on the 2.0T version and an 8-inch colour navigation system for 1.5T models.

Power comes from a 221 hp 2.0T with 350 Nm and 6-speed automatic, and 169 hp 1.5T units with 250 Nm and 7-speed automatic. The 2.0T with all-wheel-drive does 0-100 kph in 8.2 seconds.

The MG RX5 comes with standard ESP and traction control, a curving braking control system and more. Passive safety features include a strengthened body structure that uses thermal formed steel, multiple airbags, automatic unlocking in the event of a collision and a collapsible steering column, all of which has helped the MG RX5 earn a 5-star rating in the Chinese C-NCAP crash tests.

Expect the RX5 to be available in KSA as well as UAE and other GCC markets soon.
