 Long a staple of American police forces, the ancient Ford Crown Victoria will be put to sleep by September 2011, and with it dies the Police Interceptor version. But Ford has already prepared a replacement in the form of the 2012 Ford Taurus Police Interceptor.  Taking a cue from Ford’s desperate “special-edition” Mustang models, the General has just revealed yet another variant of the Corvette. This time, it is the “limited-edition” Z06 Carbon. More than just a sticker package, the Carbon is a Z06 that benefits from some of the tech that debuted in the exotic Corvette ZR1.  For what seemed like ages, there was no rain. But then when it finally rains, it pours. And we aren’t even talking about the stormy local weather. Nissan, Mazda and Jeep have joined the runaway recall bandwagon, while GM and Hyundai have managed to keep their noses clean in the UAE.  Hennessey Performance has built a new performance package for the 2010 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor. Calling it the Hennessey VelociRaptor 500, power has been beefed up significantly creating one quick off-road beast.  Bad news hit several automakers over the past few days, not least of which is Toyota’s continued pounding due to recalls. Hyundai and Suzuki have also joined the recall craze, while Hummer suffers from bad news of a different kind.  With all the recalls Toyota have been doing, they were in the news for a different reason recently, the launch of the Toyota Avalon 2011 model. Bearing the same engine under the bonnet, the re-design has a slight makeover on the exterior. The interior had more changes done which is much improved from the previous [...]  The Ford Edge 2011 has been revealed with a completely new design. Most striking is the new front look keeping intact the idea of a chrome front grill. But there’s also a Ford Edge Sport model with a bigger engine and more power.  This is one vehicle that I wasn’t even aware it went on sale in the UAE. The 2010 Cadillac SRX, a distant cousin of the lowly Chevrolet Captiva, carries the torch for the outgoing SRX, which was actually a larger vehicle. We were actually supposed to drive it next week, but a GM man suddenly [...]  Almost a year after we drove the V8-powered 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS at a constrained launch event, we finally managed to get our hands on a Camaro again, if only for a couple of days. This time, it is the base V6 model, which is good, because we never tried it out before.  The Ford Shelby GT500 2011 will come fitted with a new aluminium-block 5.4-litre engine producing 550 hp with 690 Nm of torque. The new engine is 46 kg lighter, therefore improving performance.  Dodge decided to celebrate its forty years of making performance cars by releasing Dodge Challengers in pink, though they try to make it sound more manly by calling the colour as furious fuschia.  Since it’s recall season, more manufacturers are getting in on the game. This time, Jeep and Ford are joining Toyota with brake problems.  This urban comparo is about as meaningless as it gets, but for the sake of argument, we’ll give it a go anyway. We’ve had a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee V8 since late 2007, and this is the first time that we’ve managed to drive another Jeep vehicle since then. The Shelby team unveiled a supercharged concept version of the 2011 Shelby GT350 at the U.S. Barrett-Jackson Auction, on the 45th anniversary of the first GT350.  Having never personally driven a Jeep Wrangler, I was actually looking forward to picking up this one from the local dealer for two days. Imagine my surprise when they handed me the keys to a modified Unlimited, fitted with a factory-original lift kit and other accessories.  So the Jeep has been running reasonably for the past year. The flavour of the year seems to be environmentally-friendlier [...]  Ford has facelifted the luxury version of the Ford Edge, revealing the 2011 Lincoln MKX midsize crossover at the 2010 Detroit Auto Show.  Cadillac has unveiled the fullsize XTS Platinum Concept at the 2010 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The concept showcases Cadillac’s new top-of-the-line “Platinum” series of models, which include new luxury tech and a plug-in hybrid system. The XTS is expected to replace both the STS and the DTS sedans by 2011.  The next-generation 2011 Ford Focus is making its worldwide debut at the 2010 Detroit Auto Show this month.
