Opel Astra
The latest Astra is a competitive five-door hatchback from General Motors' German division, with a decent-sized wheelbase that aims for comfort and space. The Astra received an unnoticeable facelift for 2007 that now adds a chrome crossbar on the radiator grille, and black roof trim strips and bumper guards. It comes with a 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine for the Middle East market, mated specifically to a four-speed automatic transmission driving the front wheels. Features include power windows, electric mirrors, cloth upholstery, 60/40 split-folding rear seat back, keyless entry, power steering, CD stereo, trip computer and alloy wheels. The Astra comes with a standard tyre repair kit instead of a spare tyre to improve luggage volume, which expands when the rear seat backs are folded down. Safety features include front airbags, front-side airbags, ABS brakes with emergency brake assist, and electronic brakeforce distribution. Stability control is optional. A sedan model is expected in the near future.

Opel Corsa
The Corsa is the smallest car among Opel models offered in the Middle East. Its extensive safety package and rigid galvanized body have been tested to excel in passenger protection. Body styles available in the Middle East are three-door and five-door hatchbacks. Opel went the extra step and added colour-keyed bumpers and high-level safety features, which is rare in this class of cars. Two engine options are available here, namely a 1.4-litre unit and a 1.8-litre unit, both four-cylinder. Both powerplants power the front wheels using the available standard manual transmission, but the smaller motor has an optional automatic five-speed transmission with manual shifting mode. All cars can seat five. A fold-down rear backrest can be fixed at two different angles and a rear bench can be fully folded down. Available features include power windows, cloth upholstery and CD stereo. All Corsa variants are also equipped with ABS brakes, featuring brake assist and electronic brakeforce distribution. Stability control is optional.

Opel Vectra
The Vectra is Opel's attempt at the upper end of the midsize car market, although more conservative pricing would've helped it compete against the larger Japanese midsize sedans. The Vectra was the first European application of GM's front-wheel-drive Epsilon platform, shared with the Saab 9-3. This architecture uses aluminium in the suspension and bonnet, magnesium in the dashboard cross member and lots of high-tensile steel. The Vectra, available as a sedan or a liftback, received a new front end during the 2006 model year. The largish interior can hold five people, and luggage space can be increased by folding down the rear bench seat. The extensive range of engines available in Europe has been cut down to a single 2.2-litre four-cylinder in the Middle East, mated with only a five-speed automatic transmission. Features include power windows, cloth or leather upholstery, alloy wheels, CD stereo, cruise control, keyless entry and more. The rigid passenger cell is complemented by standard safety equipment including front airbags, side airbags for driver and front passenger, as well as curtain airbags in front and rear. Also available are active head restraints in front with lumbar supports to reduce whiplash injury.
