The compact Actyon looks like nothing else on the road. If
there ever was a sporty-looking 4WD, this is it. Too bad its 2.3-litre
four-cylinder joke of an engine does not back up its looks. The engine is mated to a manual or an automatic gearbox, and power reaches the
road through a four-wheel-drive system that even includes low-range gearing. Based on the same platform as other Ssangyong 4WD vehicles, the five-door Actyon can seat up to five people and comes with a host of cabin features,
including a liftgate rear end. Available features include cloth or leather upholstery,
electric mirrors, alloy wheels of different sizes, CD player, keyless entry, power windows, cruise control and more. Safety features include dual front airbags
with available side bags. The four-wheel disc brakes are assisted by ABS with Automatic Braking Differential,
whatever that is, while traction control, hill descent control and stability
control are all also available.

Ssangyong Kyron
The Kyron is this Korean carmaker's entry into the
hotly-contested traditional soft-roader category, only they do it with a real 4WD
using truck underpinnings and low-range gearing. Two adults will have no trouble
fitting in either front or second row. Behind them is plenty of room for their
luggage too. The bench seat also folds down nearly flat to accommodate big,
awkward loads like bicycles. The weak part is the 2.3-litre four-cylinder engine. The engine is mated to a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic, and power reaches the road through a four-wheel-drive system that even includes low-range gearing. The drive system offers a choice of two-wheel drive, four-wheel high, or
four-wheel low. The suspension utilizes double wishbones at the front and a
multilink design at the rear. Available electronic aids include ABS, hill
descent control, traction control, and brake assist. Available features include cloth or leather upholstery, alloy wheels, CD
player, keyless entry, power windows, cruise control and more. Safety features
include dual front airbags with optional side airbags.
The Rexton II is the latest version Ssangyong's attractive
original Rexton. It was launched in the Middle East alongside two other now-defunct 4WDs back in 2002, and has
survived with a facelift for 2007. The five-door Rexton can seat up to seven people and comes with a host of features. The most significant of these is the 3.2-litre inline-six engine built under license from Mercedes-Benz, based on a ten-year-old design. The engine is mated to a five-speed automatic with manual shift capability, and power reaches the road through a four-wheel-drive system that even includes low-range gearing. Available features include cloth or leather upholstery, fake wood trim, alloy wheels, CD player, keyless entry, power windows, cruise control and more. Safety features include dual front airbags with available side bags. The four-wheel disc brakes are assisted by ABS with Automatic Braking Differential, while traction control is also available.
The Rodius is the only Ssangyong-badged vehicle in the line-up
that is not a 4WD wagon. Considerably ugly before, it underwent a recent facelift
to improve its looks, although it is still a nightmare to look at. The five-door
Rodius can seat seven or eight people, depending on how many people you want to
cram in, and comes with a good set of features. The most significant of these is the 3.2-litre inline-six engine built under license from Mercedes-Benz, based on a ten-year-old design. The engine is mated to a five-speed automatic with manual shift capability, and power reaches the road through
either a rear-wheel-drive or a four-wheel-drive system. Available features include cloth or leather upholstery,
aluminium-look trim, alloy wheels, CD player, keyless entry, power windows, cruise control,
electric mirrors and more. Safety features include dual front airbags with available side bags. The four-wheel disc brakes are assisted by ABS with Automatic Braking Differential, while traction control
and electronic stability control are also available.
