Mahindra Scorpio 2005 Overview

Launched here in 2005 and facelifted in 2007, the Scorpio is the first Indian consumer vehicle to grace Middle East roads since the disastrous Padmini. Unlike the Fiat-derived outdated Padmini, this 4WD wagon is mostly an original inhouse design and arguably more modern, though not quite up to current standards. Yet, it is good enough to win multiple Indian "Car of the Year" awards. This Mahindra & Mahindra product is available here only in top trim, complete with leather seats, possibly fake wood trim, power windows, central locking, power steering, keyless entry, CD stereo and rear a/c vents. It was restyled lightly for 2007. Interesting features include a low-range transfer case, seating for seven and a Renault-derived engine. However, this 2.0-litre four-cylinder is too weak to move a compact car, let alone this heavyweight 4WD. And even in top trim, there is an obvious lack of safety features other than its perceived bulk. Five of the seven passengers manage with seat belts only, with nothing for the last two inward-facing seats.
