2009 Lincoln MKS launched at LA Show

This is the 2009 Lincoln MKS, Ford’s attempt at rejuvenating the dying Lincoln brand, unveiled at the 2007 Los Angeles Auto Show currently running this November. It is a full-size luxury car based on the Ford Five Hundred platform, which itself is a derivation of the Volvo S80 platform. In other words, it is a front-wheel-drive barge competing in a world of rear-driven powerhouses.

Speaking of power, the engine is a 270 hp 3.7-litre V6 with 359 Nm of torque, mated to a six-speed automatic. There is also optional all-wheel-drive available, though we doubt it can match Honda’s “Super-Handling AWD” system.

Other features include adaptive HID headlights, adaptive cruise control, 18-inch alloy wheels, reverse camera, surround-sound audio system, navigation and keyless entry keypad.

With an American-market price starting at US$38,000 (Dhs 140,000), it is expensive for what it is, and we don’t see it saving Lincoln’s future.
