Nissan GT Academy for armchair-racers

Nissan has created a worldwide competitive driving test, called the GT Academy, for PS3-addicted GT5 gamers. The eight-month, pan-European competition sees “virtual and real-life racing merge to make the wildest dreams of two aspiring race drivers come true.” The prize is a four-month training programme to earn racing licences, followed by a real-life race driving a Nissan 350Z as part of the Nissan team at the 24H endurance race in Dubai in January 2009.

To earn a place in GT Academy, candidates will face a series of elimination-based competitions on and off the racetrack – starting at a national level with an online GT5 Prologue tournament hosted on the Playstation Network.

Players will play the Gran Turismo 5 Prologue game on PS3. GT Academy goes live at the end of May. Entrants must register, via their PS3s, on the Playstation Network (PSN) to compete in the special online tournament. Gran Turismo 5 Prologue on PS3 has sold over one million units since its launch, with the Gran Turismo franchise now having sold more than 50 million units worldwide.

As we understand it, the competition is only open to Europeans only, even if the winners will eventually drive in Dubai. Also keep in mind the GT5 Prologue is really just a full-price demo version of the actual GT5 that will be released closer to next year. Sounds like a ploy to sell more of these half-games really, while publicising Nissan in the process.

We wonder how the players will feel when they find out cars actually get damaged when they run into walls to turn faster.

  1. good news actually. but what makes me mad is that why they have to treat euro in a different way…and the winner is gona drive in dubai!!!!….really its strange….we can join them and win in the tournament and just leave the gifts for the other euro winners…really this is not good from nissan….i thought they are gona treat us equally with them…because in GCC we are old customers compared to the new nissan market in euro….in the FX we lost some of the options that will be very interesting if they bring them here ๐Ÿ™ … but the good news is that we are gona get the american version maxima here (not the teyana) although its size is not gona be as the avalon but the interior will be lux. but lets hope they wont take out some of the nice options as they did with the infiniti FX…

  2. ((really this is not good from nissan))
just tell me one good thing from nissan ๐Ÿ˜†

yesterday, I went to Infiniti dealer, I looked at EX and 08 FX. both of them are designed to carry 2 persons and may be their puppy in the 2nd row seat, not even good for kids ๐Ÿ˜† . I didn’t even think to ask how much these 2 gay’s fans cost. the cheaper Lexus RX350 got much better space.

and then i looked at 69000 Altima 2.5 standard, as usual the salesman stuck on me. he told me it is stronger, better and cheaper than Camry ( just the same sh*ts that i hear from you everyday) and told me about standard options (smart entries, cvt, cruise control) but without ABS, ๐Ÿ˜† :lol.
This is the wrong with Nissan (they always sacrifice important things by putting unhelpful toys to betray fools people รขโ‚ฌโ€œ people like you ๐Ÿ˜† – and to keep things cheaper than other cars).

  3. really it is good from nissan, they attract 2 kind of people
    1- gays.
    2- fools.

and i will leave fx50 for these kind of people above, i heard it will have small legroom space too.

  4. ((really it is good from nissan, they attract 2 kind of people

    2- fools ))

that must be why you went to the showroom ๐Ÿ˜† although i do hate the shape of the EX. your landcruiser has lots of space inside but fails miserably on the place where you’ll be spending most of your time – the ROAD. turn into a corner and i felt like i was in a speed boat that is about to tip over ๐Ÿ˜† so toyota makes bigger sacrifices.
are you sure the 2.5 altima doesn’t have ABS? ๐Ÿ˜•

the landcruiser is driven by gays. proof? here you go:
((5- you are right, I’m gay,))
    ๐Ÿ˜†

((i heard it will have small legroom space too.))

well there are people who dont particularly care about rear leg room because they are bachelors ๐Ÿ˜‰ your land cruiser is a box that is used to drag around a large family.

  5. im sure that that the standard one doesnt have ABS
And everybody cares of having larger rear legroom’s in 4-door cars, otherwise people will buy 4 seats 2-door cars if they dont care of having a large rear legroom.

  6. well, every full-size SUVs are acting like that. and I knew when I got LC that it will have some bad things because of its high centre-gravity, but also high centre-gravity is having good things either, the forward visibility is better which you can avoid further accidents. for example, you can see front of you in-line cars, you will have longer time to react if the second or third car suddenly stopped.

also don’t forget the enjoyment of driving on one side’s wheels

  7. Mash, have you tried to drive Patrol or LC on one side’s wheels?
i think you love doing things like this

  8. Author

Only if you provide the car. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  9. well the space available in the rear is more than enough for my use. it even seats my entire family comfortably. if i wanted more rear space then i would have gone for something larger like the LC. infact the LC was the first car i looked at when i was looking to buy a car. after seeing it and driving it, I was left wondering what makes this box so popular here on the roads. i was looking for something with a higher seating than normal cars but not high enough to make me feel like i’m in a boat. the LC failed in everything i wanted in a car. ofcourse if i was a heavy offroader then the LC wud be somewhere on top of my list.

mash drives his jeep on just one wheel. it helps him get into his congested parking lot. ๐Ÿ˜†

  10. cb. handling of 08 LC is a bit better than the old model. You should test 08 LC too before judging ๐Ÿ˜‰
And mash drives his jeep on just spare wheel when he is too late to take his dealer’s test-car
