2009 Volkswagen Scirocco debuts in Dubai

2009 Volkswagen Scirocco
We hear from AutoMiddleEast that the much-hyped VW Scirocco was recently launched for the GCC at a press conference in Dubai. Since we are on Volkswagen’s shit-list, we were not even invited, but we can at least gather an idea from other publications.

Apparently two versions will be available here. One is a 160 hp 1.4-litre turbocharged and supercharged engine (known as TSI) with 240 Nm of torque. It can do 0-100 kph in 8 seconds, 218 kph and 6.3 l/100 km. The other engine is the 2.0-litre turbo (also called TSI now) with 200 hp and 280 Nm, good for a 0-100 kph run of 7.1 seconds, 235 kph and 7.6 l/100 km. Both come with a 7-speed DSG automanual.

The VW Scirocco also gets a three-mode adaptive chassis control, offering the driver a choice of ‘Normal’, ‘Sport’ and ‘Comfort’ that affects suspension and steering tune. The platform itself is based wholly on the latest Volkswagen Golf, and even the interior is largely similar. Basically, it is a Golf with less headroom.

Additionally, CarMiddleEast reports between Dhs 106,000 and Dhs 114,000 in what looks like lowered recession pricing, with the terms “sports car” and “coupe” being freely thrown around at the press conference. We’d say to skip this dud, lest you embarrass yourself in public after spending that kind of money on a front-wheel-drive hatchback and taking on real sports cars. And given the reliability history of the 2.0-litre turbo as well as the DSG gearbox, trusting the complicated twin-charged 1.4-litre would be a leap of faith.

  1. no 3.2L V6 for the R32…..that sucks!!!

  2. nice looking small sport car good work vw.

  3. Were was this car 2 months ago – I was willing to buy the car before i was sacked, now im looking for a Tidda or a Yaris.A brand new Golf GTI is for DHS105K and they’re expecting this to start at DHS106K, I think the managment at VW should re-structure/fire their marketing team.I think they should start thinking of how to improve their sales + service(crappies service EVER).

  4. it really looks nice but if therez no R32 Model or at least any V6 engine….its gona be just a normal polo or something

  5. the style has over comed the version but it is not a sedan mash 😯 if the headroom is small well……. the car suck

  6. It looks great! I love it

  7. Seen it last year in Europe… its looks great and should rive great also if you like the golf, pitty that the interior is a carbon copy of the Golf… (so is the chassis for that sake… and the engine,,, and….and… and…) Ha those guys at VW they’ll do anything to save a buck (and that also reflects in the quality… with most electronics on their cars needing replacement and upholstery deteriorating seriously soon after…the 3 years warranty expires). They don’t build them to last anymore that’s for sure… (I have an 8 year old Golf with only 65000clicks on the odo and speak of experience…

  8. Nice, exotic but overpriced IMHO.. VWs make awesome cars but they are not reliable and tend to get fragile on time and require sensible servicing and maintenance.. They dont build budget cars anymore..

  9. Nice looking hatch…too bad for the performance….i’m guessing any Civic type-R rebuild can take out do with a budget close to a quarter of its base price…!!!

  10. ^ you are talking about 2 different domains here… People who buy it arent people that want to go fast..

  11. ^ sorry posted about a different topic..

  12. Amazing car, great specs. But priced too high.

  13. ^exactly.
