Geely GE artfully imitates Rolls Royce Phantom

Geely GE
The most famous launch at the recent 2009 Shanghai Auto Show was the Geely GE, a car so blatantly derivative of its source material that Rolls Royce considered suing the Chinese company for copyright infringement.

The Rolls-Royce Phantom clone is a rear-wheel-drive car powered by a 3.5-litre V6 putting out 278 hp and 340 Nm of torque. Though considered a big car by Chinese standards, even at 5.3 metres length, it is still 550 mm shorter than the Phantom.

The copied bits include the grille, the vaguely-similar profile, the tail lamps, and even the starry ceiling headliner. But the most original feature has to be in the rear seat. There is only one rear seat, or rather, one big chair to seat a single “big boss” man.

While Rolls Royce is over-reacting and has no case whatsoever, especially in China, the Geely GE could become a big hit in its home country, offering the looks of a dictator’s ride for about the equivalent of Dhs 161,000.
