Toyota recalling Avalon & Sequoia in UAE

Toyota recalling Avalon & Sequoia in UAE

While news in the U.S. is that new throttle-assembly parts are making its way to dealers there, the Toyota dealer in the UAE has made an official announcement regarding the recall, regarding affected GCC-spec models.

“We have been monitoring the situation and liaising closely with Toyota Motor Company (TMC). We can now announce that of the 8 models affected by the USA campaign only two are sold by Al-Futtaim Motors in the UAE. TMC has confirmed that the two models, Avalon and Sequoia, model years 2005 – 2010, are highly unlikely to experience the same potential accelerator issue due to the UAE’s climatic conditions.”

“However, in the interests of delivering the highest standards of customer care, we will undertake the same service campaign launched in the USA. This campaign will be launched for all Avalon and Sequoia vehicles sold by Al-Futtaim Motors in the UAE. We will be communicating the details of this service campaign with our Avalon and Sequoia customers. If any of our customers have concerns they can contact our customer care team on 04-2066002 (between 8 am and 8 pm Saturday to Thursday).”

It is already known that there will be a severe shortage of brand new throttle assemblies, now that more than 8 million cars worldwide are involved. Instead, Toyota of America has already announced that parts for a basic fix are on their way to U.S. dealers. Toyota recalled the vehicles after determining that excess friction in the accelerator pedal assembly could in rare cases cause the pedals to stick.

According to Toyota, engineers traced the problem to a friction device in the assembly that is supposed to provide the proper pedal “feel” by adding resistance. The device has a “shoe” that rubs against a nearby metal surface during normal pedal use. But wear and environmental conditions can, over time, cause the pedals to not operate smoothly or in rare cases stick partially open. The Japanese firm says the fix is simply to install a steel “reinforcement bar” to reduce the friction, although the 14% drop in Toyota’s company value will not be so easy to fix in the stock market.

We get Japanese RAV4. They get American RAV4. The only peeps screwed are the ones buying the damaged cars in Aweer market, but then again, they have way bigger issues than pedals.
