Nissan Altima 2013 full details released

The Nissan Altima is quite possibly second in midsize-sedan sales in the UAE, behind the Toyota Camry, and easily in the top three on the overall GCC market by our estimates. Apparently, it has toppled the Honda Accord for second-place behind the Camry even in the United States, where it is built. So the launch of the all-new 2013 Altima is, by all accounts, more important than any other car in its current line-up.

Debuting at the 2012 New York Auto Show, the 2013 Nissan Altima comes with a mildly-upgraded 182 hp 2.5-litre 4-cylinder engine with 244 Nm of torque, as well as a carryover 270 hp 3.5-litre V6 with 349 Nm. The standard transmission is a second-generation CVT with an extended gear ratio range and 40% reduced internal friction. A new electric power steering system reduces fuel consumption as well. The 2.5-litre engine apparently also has the best fuel economy in the segment now, without using direct-injection either.

The 2013 Altima has the same wheelbase as the outgoing model, though it is longer and wider by about an inch. With the use of high-strength steel and an aluminium bonnet, the 2013 Altima is actually 36 kg lighter than the outgoing model, even while it gains a redesigned rear suspension system.

Nissan also claims the new Altima will be more of a driver’s car than the previous model, thanks to a new multi-link rear suspension setup and a an Active Understeer Control feature that apparently offers “predictive” braking for the front wheels to reduce understeer while cornering, which will work without warning lights and beeps like most other stability-control systems.

The 2013 Altima’s cabin now has an available 4-inch colour LCD display in between the gauges that can even show navigation directions and blind-spot warnings in higher-trim models. A likely-optional new Nissan Connected infotainment platform incorporates things like navigation, standard Bluetooth, Pandora, Google point-of-interest location and even hands-free texting with a reply function. A rear-view camera with moving obstacle detection is optional, and it is also used to control the blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning and moving obstacle detection systems, without additional sensors.

The changes to the 2013 Nissan Altima aren’t major, but it looks to be enough to keep up with the competition. Already enjoying a price advantage in the Middle East region compared to other Japanese brands, it should continue to do well here when it reaches UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and other GCC countries by the end of the year.

Keep track of updates in the Nissan Altima buyer guide.

  1. Its gonna be my next car for sure…cant wait for the year to end!!

  2. I wonder how much of that tech will make it to the GCC market. Anyway was hoping for a more of a revolutionary change but all they did is make it look like a maxima…

  3. mini maxima…wonder what the lights in the front bumper do…..nice interiors too…

    • that’s DRL. Daytime Running Lights. It seems to be a necessary feature for cars in the USA but since Audi implemented the LED-style DRLs, every manufacturer copied it.

  4. Awesome, but will wait and see the 2013 Accord

  5. hmmm.. does anybody except see that it looks like an old accord from some angles and like the latest accord from some other angles?

  6. should the camry a run for it; money

  7. Side profile is great… whats up with the wacky front grill tho…

Surely will drive even better etc etc… why is it so hard to make a evolution of existing design without making it look like someone sneezed while drawing the grill… twice.

  8. No thanks, the gay CVT ruins everything

Same reason why I never considered a Maxima

  9. that design is awful,i hate all japanese designs they try to imitate sexy euro and american designs but end up with a cartoonish and conservative look, they try to not make it to brash and not too dull but end up failin at both.and i didnt know the japanese are now duplicating the koreans bcoz the front is a hyundai azera the back is hyundai equus(centennial) .

  10. name should not have been changed to ” nissan altima 2013″ from the maxima

  11. I think it looks rather good…
though there is a bit of Maxima and his sunny’ness involved in it…

  12. looks fabulous…way better than the new camry at least..lol

  13. Kia Optima is way better than this.

  14. looks like the maxima

  15. It looks great…And i am sure it will be far less expensive than Toyota Camry. Not to mention about the number of features it will provide when compared with Camry in same price. It will be here by Sep ’12.

I plan to change my Maxima with this one, but with 3.5L Altima.

  16. Am planning but this tech…does any one knows the approximate Price…and guys wot about chevy malibu 2013…eagerly waiting for ur opinions

  17. I think I’ve made up my mind to get this if I’m able to save up enough dough Inshallah :D, easily the best in the class for now!

  18. Altima 2013 is a perfect car and way better than optima, accord, camry, etc.
