Mazda 6 redesign debuts as 2013-2014 model

Mazda has unveiled the new “Mazda6” at the 2012 Moscow Motor Show, of all places. This mid-size sedan has just become the hottest car in its segment by far.

The 2013-2014 Mazda 6 is powered by their “Skyactiv” engines, sending power to the front wheels through either a 6-speed automatic or a 6-speed manual gearbox. The motors don’t back up the sporty looks of the car though, with a 148 hp 2.0-litre and a 189 hp 2.5-litre, both fuel-efficient 4-cylinder motors. Also attached to the powertrain is Mazda’s new “i-Eloop” regenerative braking system, combined with stop/start technology.

The new Mazda 6 is expected to hit many markets by the end of the year, although we can expect it in the GCC by early next year.

In other news, the U.S. “AutoAlliance International” plant, jointly owned by Mazda and Ford and responsible for building the Mazda 6 Ultra, has stopped building Mazda cars permanently. Ford is taking it over for 2013 Fusion production. This likely means there will only be one version of the Mazda 6 for worldwide markets. For the last few years, there have been two different sizes of the Mazda 6 on sale in the UAE, one from Japan and one from the United States.

Keep track of updates in the Mazda buyer guide.

  1. The screen looks like an after market add on. Doesn’t blend with the overall dashboard design.

  2. Very good looking car.

  3. Hope no one says it looks like Sonata

  4. A weight drop of 150kg on the curb weight from last generation sounds quite interesting.

At a time when 2.0L are busy producing nearly 200hp, the 2.0L in this case has an output of a boring 148hp. Hyundai achieves that from a 1.8L. The 189 hp from the 2.5L puts it nearly on top of the list, compared to the other Jap trio.

No V6 variants or turbo options, makes it alil upsetting.

I have my doubts whether we will get the SkyActiv engines and regenerative braking with start/stop technology is going to make the cut in this market. Let’s keep our fingers crossed.

    • these HP you are talking about are achieved through direct injection technology and Hyundai is not bringing these engines here for fuel quality issues, so even the 2.4 sonata is barely making 170 HP while the 1.8 you are talking about is making only around 120-130 here in GCC

  5. At last 2.5L direct injection made debut. Im very happy with its power (189Hp). Overall car is worth to buy if it range in Aed 90s..

  6. This looks nice, but the Mondeo (Fusion) still seems like the better option for 2013.

  7. Launch date in Uae pls…??
Altima 2013 or wait for this..!!
    Pls leave ur inputs …

  8. BEST LOOKING CAR FOR THIS PRICE RANGE..
    $20,000 TO $30,000
    HAVE TO SEE IN PERSON,,
WAITING TO GET ONE….SILVER/WHITE OR DARK SILVER..

  9. Hi Mashfique … would you know the launch date in UAE ..

  10. Stunning car in terms of performance and beautiful in terms of design, and is considered the best in its class at all ..

  11. I believe I spotted a billboard here in Riyadh today mentioning the Mazda6 2014 starting from SR66,000 or SR1,3XX monthly.

  12. is there any option like an installment basis here in qatar?I m excited about the car Hp189 its very interesting to know,…at the same time about maintaining this car, how about the spare parts prices? thus it really has the advantage over accord, toyota or altima?likewise i m a accord fans, but it shows it is more fan to drive mazda 6 than accord,.
