Honda reveals details on 2017 Acura NSX

2017 Acura NSX

Acura has revealed the official specs of the much awaited NSX hybrid-supercar. The car broke grounds at the North American International Auto Show in January, following years of teasers and concepts, some as early as 2007!

The NSX will come with a mid-mounted 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 producing about 500 hp and 550 Nm of torque, which is further supplemented by an electric motor, cutting in to assist the V6 with an additional 47 hp and 135 Nm of torque. If that wasn’t enough, there are two additional electric motors putting out 36 hp and 73 Nm of torque, and attached to the front axle for torque vectoring.

Power is transferred through a rear-mounted 9-speed dual-clutch gearbox to all four-wheels; a system which Acura calls, the “Sport Hybrid Super Handling All-Wheel Drive.” In all, the NSX amasses a total of 573 hp and 644 Nm of torque. This translates to a 0-100 kph time of approximately 3.0 seconds, and a top speed of 307 kph.

Despite all the figures, it is reported that the NSX weighs more than 1,725 kg, with its mid-mounted engine and lithium-ion battery pack. There’s also word that the NSX can be fitted with optional equipment such as a carbon-fibre roof, spoiler and engine cover.

The 2017 NSX is due to go on sale sometime next year, but they’re still tight-lipped about the pricing.

The NSX was spotted testing in the UAE. But whether it will be sold in the GCC remains to be seen.

What do you think?

  1. It is really nice car with very advance technologies, but frankly Japanese car makers seriously need to build nice well rounded, well priced sports cars for the masses, now you either have Super cars which are very expensive like the GT-R and this one, or underpowered, impractical cars like the GT86, Miata, etc, the 370Z is old already and has 2 seats only, we need something to compete with the American muscle cars in terms of power, size and price, and predictably with better handling, something to be sold in the range of 180 to 250 K dhs, this segment is good but japanese are missing it.

    • we need something to compete with the American muscle cars in terms of power, size and price, and predictably with better handling,

You said it all. Yes, the Japs are having the handling, the intelligence of the engine development, the quality of building and the durability.

You wanna beat the muscle cars? Even with 50-100hp less, wait for the next curve, and you’re in.

And there are some cars able to: take an Accord V6, coupé or not. It’s 276hp, 335 Nm, 7,300 rpm cut-off, and V-TEC. For just the low price you are talking about (AED 125k)

Speaking about 370Z? Go have a look at Infinity: G37 for less than AED 200k.

      Lexus RC350, AED 190k.
Lexus RC-F if you wanna be in the range of 400hp and above.

Go have a look at Subaru too.

I’m also unsure about the specs of the MX-5.

What I’m sure of, is that V8 are a bit missing for the niche you are talking about, and also are missing a replacement to S2000 and Civic Type-R (not imported here).
But the 6 cylinders (engines and cars) from Jap are, when fully sum-up, better than the muscle cars you are mentioning.

    • @Leborde

The majority of the cars you mentioned dont compete, how do you compare FWD accord to RWD cars? its a girly car, the Subaru is AWD and will not give that fun in driving, although it is nice car, but also it is childish with its giant spoiler etc, the G37 is there for almost 7 years now and it is so dated, I would not pay 200 k for it, then comes the RC, which is the heaviest car in its category so it is extremely underpowerd in V6, otherwise you need to pay 320 k for the F version and it is very cramped in the rear, the Z370 is 2 seater, and btw, the American muscles are not bad in handling as before, the new mustang is good, and the new 2016 camaro is good handler, they both have some size to have someone in the back not like japanese coupes
