2017 Mercedes-AMG GT C coupe expands line-up

A new entrant to the already-elaborate Mercedes-AMG GT lineup was revealed at the Detroit Auto Show last month. Named the AMG GTC coupe, the new car is essentially the hardtop version of the existing GT C roadster. The GT C coupe slots in between the hardtop-only GT S and GT R.

The new GT C coupe uses the same 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8 unit as the rest of its family. But in the GT C, it produces 550 hp and 680 Nm. Mercedes has updated the power outputs of all AMG GT variants as well. The standard GT now produces 469 hp while the GT S cranks out 515 horses. The range-topping GT R dishes out 577 hp which slots the new GT C coupe right below it. Along with the seven–speed dual clutch gearbox, this powerplant propels the GT C coupe from 0 to 100 kph in 3.7 seconds and onwards to a top speed of 315 kph.

The GT C coupe serves as a more civilised alternative to the bonkers GT R as the new car gets many of the goodies available with the range topper. Rear-wheel steering, adaptive damping, and an electronic limited slip differential are a few of them. Visually, the GT C coupe looks a lot like the GT R as it flaunts the new Panamericana grille and the flared arches of its mental brother. The grille is also available with the lesser models as well.

Mercedes hasn’t announced the pricing of any models yet, but we estimate somewhere around Dhs 750,000 in the UAE. The GT C will initially be available exclusively as a pricier Edition 50 model, which includes 50 coupes and 50 roadsters. Buyers will get a unique Designo Graphite Grey Magno colour, AMG forged wheels, black chrome trim, and a few more exclusive options. Expect it to become available in the GCC sometime in the summer.
