2017 Nissan Patrol Super Safari debuts in UAE and GCC

The Y61-generation Nissan Patrol, still on sale in select markets including the UAE after the new Y62-generation came out in 2010, is getting a second life in the GCC, even as it is being phased out elsewhere. There will now be a top trim level called the Nissan Patrol Super Safari in the Middle East.

The 2017 Patrol Super Safari comes with new tan leather seats and door trim with 8-way power seats for the driver and 4-way for the front passenger. New features include a navigation system as well as front and rear parking sensors with rear view camera, Bluetooth, USB, CD, AUX input and FM/AM radio. The vehicle comes equipped with automatic climate control and a built-in refrigerated cool box.

The Super Safari can be distinguished from other Patrol models by its unique machine-cut 17-inch black alloy wheels, dual-tone body colour, a rear spoiler and a Super Safari body stripe.

The Patrol Super Safari still carries on the aging-but-loved 4.8-litre DOHC inline 6-cylinder engine producing 248 hp and 420 Nm of torque (as per Wikipedia, although still advertised as 280 gross hp and 451 Nm of gross torque for some reason). The engine is mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission with manual mode.

Stability control and a tyre-pressure monitor are standard now, as per current regulations. Dual front airbags, ABS, an immobiliser and cruise control are also included, as are the classic rear locking differential, an electric front winch, as well as front and rear-pintle tow hooks.

  1. This car is great but why they dont improve the fuel efficiency ?

  2. At the end almost everyone buying this car will modify it to the limit and beyond, so why Nissan doesn’t release a nismo edition straight from the factory?

    • maybe coz it would be soooo much more expensive than installing a couple of turbos yourself. which means nobody would buy a NISMO version 😛

  3. Have always liked this generation of the Patrol. Glad to know it’s being given a new phase of life! 🙂

  4. What is the price of this legend?

  5. Its a Classic !!!!

  6. I grew up in the UAE so i naturally love the old Patrol! I currently work in Qatar and notice the Qatari locals here prefer the Land Cruiser over the Nissan Patrol, not sure why but i guess its different in each country in the GCC.

  7. There is no substitute for a inline 6cylinder, big bore for tuning and Y61 is the most reliable SUV presently available in UAE, it may be not as laxuary as Landrovers but in our desert it’s the king.
When 4.8L is under the bonnet who is worried about fuel efficiency, personally I met 2digit figures when derived for a check. believe me the best … Greg
