Lamborghini Urus revealed as world’s fastest SUV

The name Lamborghini has always been synonymous with brash designs and high performance. The low-slung supercars that constituted the Italian marque’s lineup appealed to most people. But once, there existed an SUV, the rather forgettable LM002 from Lamborghini that combined the powerplant of the Countach with a high-riding body to spawn their first production off-road vehicle. And now, Lamborghini has added another chapter to the same book with the release of their new SUV, Urus.

There is no denying the fact that the Urus at least tries to look like a proper modern Lambo. The edges are sharp and the lines are crisp. The design incorporates a few visual elements from the rest of the lineup and combines seamlessly with the high-riding SUV silhouette. The front fascia is aggressive as it gets colored accents in the grille, slim headlights, and a muscular hood. The Urus is built on the same platform as the Bentley Bentayga, Porsche Cayenne, and the Audi Q7. The Urus weighs 2154 kilos, the dynamics of which is reined in by the “largest brakes in the world”, humongous 17.3-inch carbon ceramics paired with 10-piston calipers.

Inside, the Urus features a centre stack design and angular dashboard elements. The car also features the flat-bottom steering wheel and the fighter jet-styled starter button from the supercar range. There are several driving modes to choose from. The familiar Strada, Corsa, and Sport carries on along with Sabbia (Sand), Terra (Off-Road) and Neve (Snow).

Under the hood, contrary to speculations, sits neither the V12 nor the V10. The engine bay of the Lamborghini Urus is home to a 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8 engine that is tuned to produce 650 hp and 850 Nm of torque. This firepower propels the car from 0-100 kph in 3.59 seconds and onwards to a top speed of 300 kph, which is 5 kph more than the current fastest SUV, the Bentley Bentayga. Only the bonkers 707 hp Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk has more power than the Urus in the SUV sector.

The Urus also gets an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission unit to handle this ammo. It borrows the rear-wheel steering from the Aventador S and uses it with the standard all-wheel-drive system.

The Lamborghini Urus will be made at the Sant’Agata Bolognese, Italy and price will start from US $200,000 apiece. The V8 will remain as the only engine choice, with a plug-in hybrid slated to join it later. We will definitely see a few on the streets of UAE, Saudi Arabia and other GCC countries.
