2018 Maserati Ghibli facelift revealed, adds two new trims

At the 2017 Chengdu Motor Show in China, Maserati took the wraps off two trims of their smaller sedan, the 2018 Ghibli. Dubbed the GranLusso and GranSport, these two trims of the 2018 Ghibli comes with some gentle updates for the 4-year old model.

The 2018 Maserati Ghibli shows off some exterior tweaks which not only help in freshening up the aesthetics of the car but also in improving the aerodynamics. The visual updates made to the front bumper differ in both the trim levels. Up front, both models get a pair of full-LED adaptive headlights that come with a matrix high-beam function. The interior has been updated slightly as well.

Maserati has ditched the hydraulic power steering system for an electric setup from this model year. This has helped in adding more safety and assistance systems to the mix. Technologies like active blind spot assist, lane keeping assist, and highway assist have found their way into the 2018 Ghibli. And if you opt for the Driver Assistance package, Traffic sign recognition and adaptive cruise control add up to it. For this model year, Maserati has also added an Integrated Vehicle Control that works in tandem with the ESP.

The GrandLusso is the more luxuriously appointed version among the two with an enhanced exterior finish and opulent interior with Ermenegildo Zegna silk upholstery. The Ghibli GranSport on the other hand, is more inclined towards sportiness as its aggressive exterior hints.

Maserati offers the 2018 Ghibli with four different powertrain options which can be fitted to either of the trims. The Ferrari-sourced 3.0-litre Biturbo engine makes extra 20 hp and 30 Nm. This engine is available with the Ghibli S and the AWD Ghibli S Q4, in which it makes 430 hp and 580 Nm. This is good enough to propel the car from 0-100 kph in 4.7 seconds (for the AWD model). The top speed is the same for both of them, which remains at 286 kph.

Expect the 2018 Maserati Ghibli to make its way to the UAE, Saudi Arabia and other GCC countries sometime early next year.
