Top 5 coolest features of the all-new GMC Terrain

The original GMC Terrain crossover was first introduced in our region a decade ago. Now in its third generation, GMC’s latest Terrain offers new levels of style and sophistication, with a choice of powerful-yet-economical 1.5-litre turbo or 2.0-litre turbo engines, both mated to 9-speed automatics. We’re going to take a look at the top 5 coolest features that define this premium crossover.

Looks

The all-new Terrain features some bold exterior design details. The front grille is big and imposing, just like on its bigger brothers such as the Sierra and the Yukon. But there are more sculpted elements, like the boomerang-shaped headlights with the standard integrated LED running lights as well as similarly C-shaped LED tail lamps. And in the back, there is the shoulder line that smoothly moves upwards, while the darkened pillar creates a floating roof effect.

Choice of Trim

There are three trim levels to choose from, each one with its own distinct style.

The SLE 1.5 turbo model comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, standard HID headlights, a black grille with chrome surround and black roof rails for an understated-yet-premium look.

The SLE 2.0 turbo model comes with a similar look, but comes with upgraded 18-inch alloy wheels.

The SLT 2.0 turbo version spruces up the style with 18-inch machined-aluminium wheels with grey-painted accents, chrome grille and bumper inserts, mirror-mounted LED indicators, front fog lamps and silver roof rails.

The Denali goes all out with larger 19-inch machined-aluminium wheels with grey accents, full LED headlights, unique chrome grille insert, chrome mirror caps, bright roof rails and body-colour lower cladding with chrome inserts.

Practical Interior

Inside, GMC expanded the centre console by replacing the traditional gear shifter with a set of easy-to-use buttons. There is also pass-through storage underneath and convenient side-by-side cupholders.

The Terrain is also offered with real aluminium trim and soft-touch surfaces all around the cabin, with leather-trimmed seats on the SLT and Denali models. Active noise cancellation is standard.

The powered tailgate requires no hands to open. All you have to do is put your foot below the rear bumper and it opens. This is useful when your hands are full with groceries. It can also close the same way.

Inside, a new fold-flat front passenger seat and a flat-folding rear seat make it easier to stow longer items.

There are also new under-floor compartments in the spacious cargo area for more secure storage.

Connectivity

Connectivity technologies include 7-inch or 8-inch-diagonal GMC Infotainment System touchscreens with support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (where available). A 4.2-inch multi-colour driver information centre is also available.

There are two data/charging and two charge-only USB ports on the SLE trim, while there is also a power outlet and two additional data/charging USB ports on SLT and Denali trims. Wireless charging is also available on the Denali.

Safety Features

In terms of safety, the Terrain has all the usual features such as 6 standard airbags, electronic stability control and ABS. But a unique new feature is the rear-seat reminder, which alerts parents to check the back seat before leaving the car, as the Terrain detects if the second-row doors were opened before the vehicle is started.

The Terrain can also be had with state-of-the-art active safety features such as Side Blind Zone Alert with Lane Change Alert, Rear Park Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Safety Alert Driver Seat, Low Speed Forward Automatic Braking, Forward Collision Alert, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Following Distance Indicator, IntelliBeam headlights, Automatic Parking Assist, and Surround Vision for a 360-degree camera view.

With a no-holds-barred approach to technology, performance and safety, the all-new GMC Terrain is certainly one of the most advanced crossovers around.
