2020 Hyundai Palisade is the brand’s biggest SUV ever

Even though the Grand Santa Fe is quite a decently proportioned SUV, Hyundai realised that there still is some room left at the top to fill. So here is the Hyundai Palisade, an eight-seater SUV that seems to want to take on full-size SUVs with a crossover platform, more like the Honda Pilot than the Toyota Land Cruiser.

The Hyundai Palisade takes design cues from sister SUVs, Kia Telluride and the new Hyundai SantaFe. The double-tier headlights flank the massive cascading grill. The wheel arches can house 20-inch wheels. The Palisade’s cleveraerodynamic tweaks like rear wheel aero deflectors and underside panels give it a respectable drag coefficient of just 0.33. The sweptback LED tail lamps give the rear a distinct character.

Inside, there is ample room for 8 people. Even in the second-row captain seats, you get ventilation feature and even the rearmost seats can recline for more comfort. The third-row seats can power fold/unfold. The Palisade has everything Hyundai had in their feature bin fitted into it. Shift-by-wire controls on the center console, heads-up display, intercom system, adaptive cruise control, wireless charging, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, a 12.3-inch drivers display being just a few of them.

Under the hood resides a 3.8-litre V6 engine with 291 hp and 355 Nm. This engine is married to an 8-speed transmission and will be offered in two and four-wheel drive formats. There is no mention of offroad abilities.

The 2020 Hyundai Palisade should go on sale in the later half of 2019 in the UAE and GCC.

  1. A creditable job done by Hyundai. They defiitely had to broaden their offerings for which they had to enter more and more segments. This class of cars, crossover cum SUVs has seen a reasonable success in the UAE with models dominating such as the Ford Explorer and the Honda Pilot which offer high practicality, seating for seven, a plethora of gismos and ease of driving to name a few. Though the Grand SantaFe does compete against these models, it never came in limelight as it was just an extended wheelbase Santa Fe. Hyundai had to do something legendary and more than that, build an SUV which took very little cues from the Santa Fe and I think their first attempt is worthy of appreciation. On the outside, except for the cascading grille, everything looks new and a touch premium as well. It is the brand’s flagship and it certainly boasts of that. I particularly like the bold design which is elegant at the same time and the proportions which aren’t a bully. On the inside, except for the A/c vents, every bolt is exceptional to the car which just adds to its wow factor. Hyundai has done a commendable job in providing with as many driving aids as they could which would just enhance the driving comfort making it a breeze. Hyundai definitely has a winner in their hands.

  2. Looks very good. Styling is really modern and interiors are nicely done.

  3. At least we can agree that this looks better than the Pilot.

  4. Looks like a big box.
    So ugly!!

  5. Awesome work done… But the side profile looks like Chev Traverse.. Still one of the good looking on the segment
