Manufacturer recalls for June 2019

Here are all the local and international automotive recalls for the month of June. 

Audi’s first step into the mainstream EV world, the E-Tron SUV is now in the news for a water leak. This can let water into the battery compartment of the E-Tron, which can short the circuit and cause a fire. The recall procedure will be available starting from August 2019. The Audi E-Trons will be inspected for this issue.

Exactly 16365 Nissan Urvan vans are being recalled in UAE as these vehicles are found to generate abnormal noise from the engine compartment. In severe cases, the power steering bracket can be broken, which will make the steering really heavy. The affected vehicles are made from 2012 to 2018. Nissan will check and replace the faulty part if deemed necessary.

The Mazda 3 is recalling a second set of cars, after another recall last month in the United States. After the problem with the wiper blade in May, there is another recall for the Mazda 3 in June. According to the NHTSA, the affected cars may have a “partial gap” between the hub bolts and hub flanges. This can cause the lug nuts to loosen over time which will cause the wheels to fall off while driving. This recall affects 2019 model vehicles and a total of 25,003 cars are found to be affected.

With the Takata airbag recall still haunting all automakers, Honda has decided to get it over with as soon as possible. They have started to recall 1.6 million vehicles to replace the faulty airbag inflators, six months ahead of the schedule dictated by the NHTSA. Takata’s airbags were fitted with inflators which used Ammonium Nitrate to create an explosion to make the airbag fire in the event of an accident. But this chemical can burn too fast, triggering an untimely explosion of the airbags. This is accelerated with exposure to high temperature and humidity levels.

Porsche recalls their Panamera sedan and Cayenne SUV models due to a problem with their transmissions. The problem lies with the bushing that attaches the gear selector lever to the transmission. This bushing can degrade over time which, in extreme cases, can slot the transmission into a gear other than the one that’s selected. 2003-2010 Cayenne and 2010-2016 Panamera models are affected by this issue and the owners of these vehicles will receive a notification regarding this recall soon.

About 1.2 million Ford Explorers are recalled for an issue with the rear suspension. The toe link of the rear suspension in these vehicles can fracture which can reduce steering control and increase the risk of a crash. This effect is even more pronounced if the vehicle is taken through tough off-roading. The Ford Explorer SUVs built between May 2010 and January 2017 will be affected. Ford will replace the toe links of these SUVs with forged toe links, which will not break.
