Manufacturer recalls for November 2020

Manufacturer recalls for November 2020

Here is the list of recalls that were issued around the world in the month of November.

The new Toyota Supra and its twin, the BMW Z4 are no strangers to recalls. The sportscars are being recalled again, now for improperly welded fuel tanks, a possible fire hazard. As per U.S. NHTSA campaign no: 20V700000, BMW Z4 units produced from June 26, 2019, to July 9, 2020, and Toyota Supras produced from April 19, 2019, to July 16, 2020, are affected by this recall. But only 49 units are potentially affected by this issue. It is unclear if any cars in the Middle East are affected.

General Motors has planned a colossal recall that is estimated to cost US$ 1.2 billion and involving more than 7 million SUVs and trucks. You might have already guessed the reason if you have been following the recall threads for the past year. Yes, it is the Takata airbag again. The airbags, notorious for their faulty inflators that may explode at any moment, have forced auto manufacturers to recall more than 100 million vehicles worldwide to date. GM says that their tests do not show any risk, yet they are going ahead with the expensive recall. The vehicles that will be recalled this time include Chevrolet Silverado 1500, 2500, and 3500 pickups, Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe and Avalanche, GMC Sierra 1500, 2500, and 3500 pickups, Yukon SUV and the Cadillac Escalade, with model years between 2007 and 2014.

There is one more recall from GM this month. This recall covers more than 217,000 cars that are suspected to have a transmission oil leak, which could be a fire risk. The vehicles covered by this recall include the 2018-2020 Chevrolet Equinox and Traverse along with the GMC Terrain. Also, a part of this recall is the 2018 Chevy Malibu, 2018-2019 Cruze and Buick LaCrosse, 2020 Cadillac XT6, and 2019-2020 Buick Encore, Enclave, Chevy Blazer, Cadillac XT4, and GMC Acadia. As per GM, these vehicles may be missing two bolts from the start-stop system, leading to a fuel leak. The vehicles will be inspected and if a potential leak is found, the bolts will be replaced.

The other major American manufacturer, Ford is also in the action this month. Ford Explorer SUVs built between 2013-2017 are being recalled to fix a potential issue in their rear suspension. These vehicles may have “a fracture of the outboard section of the rear suspension toe link.” Over 375,000 SUVs are affected by this recall yet very few in our region may have this issue as it is mostly found in areas “that experience harsh winters and heavily salted roads.” The dealers will conduct a torque inspection of the cross-axis ball joint and replace it if found necessary.

Tesla has issued two separate recalls for over 9,500 vehicles including both their crossovers, the Model X and Model Y. The larger Model X is being recalled as the front and spine cosmetic roof trim of the electric crossover may have been adhered to the roof incorrectly, creating chances for them to fall off. According to NHTSA, 9,136 Model X crossovers are being inspected by Tesla. If they fail a retention test, a primer will be applied to secure the trims. The second recall is a small one involving just 401 2020 Model Y crossovers. The bolts connecting the upper control arm may detach from the steering knuckle, owing to an improper tightening of the bolts. The vehicles will be inspected for proper torque. If they fail, adjustments will be made.

Another fuel leak comes from an SUV, the Lamborghini Urus. The performance SUV is being recalled for a potential fuel leak resulting due to a faulty fuel line connector. The NHTSA says that the issue is due to the “integrity of the quick connecter of the fuel line located in the engine compartment.” As per Lamborghini, the fuel leak is caused by the softening of the quick connect material when exposed, on rare occasions, to temperatures higher than the design operation specification limit. A total of 2,831 Urus are being recalled from the model years 2019-2020. Owners should be notified before December 18 if their Urus is affected.

If you feel any of these recalls affect you, contact your local dealer.
