Ford Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition makes the EV even faster

If you have been dejected since the day Ford launched the Mustang Mach-E crossover with the name of your favorite muscle car, this should somewhat give you a bit of relief. Ford pushes the performance envelope of the EV crossover with a new Ford Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition with the comparable capability to that of the Mustang Shelby GT500.

The standard Mustang Mach-E GT is quick, running from 0 to 100 kph in just over 3.9 seconds. The new Mach-E GT Performance Edition drops 0.2 seconds from its time, getting awfully close to the Mustang Shelby GT500’s 3.5 seconds. The GT Performance Edition does not make any more power than the regular Mach-E GT’s 480 hp, but the torque has been bumped up to 860 Nm. That is an increase of 46 Nm.

The Mach-E GT Performance Edition uses the same 88-kWh battery from the GT. But the extra torque causes the range to fall. The EPA-estimated range drops to 378 km rather than the 402 km of the regular Mustang Mach-E GT.

With the added torque comes added responsibility to control it. The Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition gets 19-inch Brembo brake calipers. There is also a set of 20-inch wheels shod with Pirelli tyres.

The Ford Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition enhances the performance of the EV Crossover by a small bit. Though it won’t be enough to please all the Mustang purists, it should help the brand future-proof the Mustang. The prices for the top Mach-E are not out yet and the deliveries for it will not start until mid-2021. Anyone with a reservation for the regular Mach-E GT can opt for this variant as well. However, it remains to be seen when the Mach-E is offered in the UAE and GCC.
