2021 Toyota Fortuner gets minor updates for new model year

Along with the 2021 Toyota Hilux, Toyota has also flung the covers off its SUV sibling, the 2021 Toyota Fortuner. The facelifted midsize SUV comes with a slightly updated design, a more powerful engine option, and a few more features.

Like the 2021 Hilux, the new Fortuner gets minor updates up front in the form of updated LED headlamps, grill and bumper. At the rear, the LED tail lamps get updates as well. In Thailand, the Fortuner gets a Legender version with more features, two-tone finish paint job, modified front design and 20-inch alloy wheels.

The interior of the 2021 Fortuner gets a minor update in the form of an 8-inch touchscreen system instead of the 7-inch unit. The new infotainment system gets Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity.

Updates on the petrol powerplants for the 2021 Fortuner are yet to be revealed by Toyota. In the diesel-friendly market of Thailand, the 2.8-litre turbodiesel unit makes more power and torque — 201 hp and 500 Nm respectively. The powertrain is also revised to return 17 percent better fuel efficiency. In other markets, a smaller 2.4-litre diesel unit will also be offered. It is likely that the UAE and GCC market will get carryover 2.7-litre and 4.0-litre engines whose basic design date back 15 years to the first-generation Fortuner.
