2021 Mercedes Benz E Class Coupe and Cabriolet follows the new sedan

Just a few months after the reveal of the updated 4-door 2021 Mercedes E Class, the German manufacturer has now shown off the Coupe and Cabriolet versions of the executive sedan. The lineup also includes the new E53 AMG Coupe and Cabriolet.

The 2021 E Class Coupe and Cabriolet unsurprisingly get the same face job as the new E Class Sedan. The sloping grill flanked by the standard LED headlamps is lifted straight off the four-door model. The LED tail lamps retain the same design from the outgoing model. If you need a bit more visual zing, you can opt for the AMG Line pack, which adds styling cues from the AMG basket as well as larger wheels.

The 2021 Mercedes-AMG E53 Coupe and Cabriolet gets the same updates as the regular model albeit with the sportier bits. The AMG-signature Panamericana grill sits up front. A set of 19-inch wheels are standard while you have an option to upgrade to a 20-inch set. Two new colours, Brilliant Blue Magno and Graphite Grey Metallic, were added to the range. For some added flair, an AMG Night Package can be added as an option that blacks out body bits like the ORVMs, exhaust tips among others. Else, there is an AMG Carbon Fibre package that will add carbon fibre mirrors, a carbon fibre lip spoiler and a carbon fibre trunk lid.

The upholstery inside the E Class Coupe and Cabriolet are brand new, giving it a refreshed appeal. The 2021 models also get new steering wheel options as well as the brand’s latest infotainment system, MBUX, a standard. The system flaunts a large 12.3-inch touchscreen and other techy bits like Android Auto, Apple CarPlay etc. The rotary dial controlling the infotainment system goes out to make way for a modern touchpad along with a new set of capacitive touch buttons on the steering wheel. The driver information system also utilises another 12.3-inch screen to display all vital information.

On the safety side, the 2021 E Class Coupe and Cabriolet gets tech like automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and active parking assist with a 360-degree camera as standard. Items like a heads-up display, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control etc. can be tossed in for an additional cost.

The powertrain updates are also similar to that of the sedan.

In the Middle East, the models on offer are the E200, with 197 hp and 320 Nm of torque, and the E300, with 258 hp and 370 Nm, both powered by 2.0-litre turbo inline-4 engines in different states of tune, and capable of 0-100 kph in 7.6 and 6.4 seconds respectively.

The E450 with EQ Boost, which ditches the 3.0-litre V6 and employs a turbocharged 3.0-litre inline-six instead for 362 hp and 500 Nm, is not offered in the UAE and GCC.

The more powerful AMG-badged E53 utilises the 3.0-litre turbo inline-6 but with an output of 435 hp and 520 Nm, while EQ Boost adds another 22 hp and 250 Nm. It comes with a 9-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox and comes exclusively in 4MATIC all-wheel-drive for the Middle East, with “AMG RIDE CONTROL+” suspension. An “AMG Driver’s Package” bumps up the speed limiter from 250 kph to 270 kph.

Pricing info on the 2021 E Class Coupe or Cabriolet is not out yet but both the models are expected to hit the showroom floors by the end of this year in the UAE and GCC.
