Manufacturer recalls for July 2020

With economies slowly freeing themselves from the grip of the COVID-19 pandemic, the automotive industry is slowly creeping back up to their old levels. But surprisingly, only a single major recall was reported in the past month that was relevant to the Middle Eastern market. This comes as a stark contrast to the last month, which registered a plethora of recall campaigns. The only relevant recall in the past month is from — no prizes for guessing — FCA.

FCA has announced that they will recall close to a million vehicles to replace the airbag cover on the steering wheel. The vehicles included in the recall are 2007-2011 Dodge Nitro SUVs, 2008-2010 Chrysler Town & Country (also known as Voyager) and Dodge Grand Caravan minivans. Precisely speaking, about 925,239 vehicles are recalled, most of them in the United States. These vehicles are found to have clips on the steering wheel that may loosen and break off over time. These small clips may act as projectiles in the event of an airbag deployment, harming the driver.

This recall comes after the fault possibly lead to 14 injuries. FCA clarified that the airbags were not supplied by Takata, a company the faulty airbag units of which had triggered one of the biggest recalls in the world automotive history.

If you happen to own any of these three vehicles from the model years mentioned, ring up your dealer and get your vehicle checked as per their protocol.
