2022 Lexus LX600 arrives with the new Land Cruiser roots

We all knew that Lexus LX 600 is not that far from a reveal when the new generation LC 300 Toyota Land Cruiser came around a month ago. Well, the all-leather, plush twin of the LC 300 is here now, and it too has ditched the V8.

The current-generation Lexus LX is no less than 14 years old. With this age under its belt, the Lexus LX600’s arrival is important to the brand. Based on the new TNGA-F platform, the 2022 LX600  goes through the same diet as the Land Cruiser, shaving off 200 kilos from its overall weight.

The Lexus LX600 looks almost the same as the LC. But the front and rear ends have been heavily tweaked for its more opulent identity. The existing Lexus LX570 already had a colossal spindle front grill, but the LX600 seems to have gone even bigger and with more chrome. The rear gets a wide LED light bar and now gets “LEXUS” spelled across instead of just the “L” logo.

The cabin flaunts a twin-touchscreen setup, with the top 12.3-inch display for infotainment and navigation. The smaller 7-inch screen below provides access to the climate controls. The Multi-Terrain Monitor system also use the screens to display the camera feed and offroad data.

The LX600 now offers an Ultra Luxury trim. The second-row seats are independent units that can recline up to 48 degrees. Passengers can also fold the front passenger seat at the touch of a button and deploy a footrest for elevated comfort. Other standard equipment on this trim include overhead vents, a rear-seat entertainment system with dual screens, sunshades, and more.

Yet another new trim that enters the range is the F Sport. This package adds visual updates including a 22-inch alloy wheel set. Under the skin, the F Sport LX600 gets a Torsen limited-slip differential, specially tuned front and rear dampers, rear stabilizer, and bespoke settings for suspension and steering.

The 2022 Lexus LX600 will offer the same 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine from the LC300, pumping out 409 hp and 650 Nm. A new ten-speed automatic box channels this power to the wheels. Unlike the Land Cruiser which kept the naturally aspirated 4.0-litre V6 around, there was no way the ancient 5.7-litre V8 engine was going to survive, given it was producing much less power than the competition.
