2022 Nissan Frontier is the new Navara we won’t get

The Nissan Navara is a model sold around the world in different guises. In the United States, the mid-size pickup is called the Nissan Frontier but remained identical to the Navara until a few years ago. Now, for the 2022 model year, there is a new Nissan Frontier in the U.S. but it will now stand separate from the internationally-sold Nissan Navara.

One look at the new Nissan Frontier and we instantly regret its unavailability on our shores. The 2022 model looks unlike anything in its segment. While the full-size pickup market gets butch machinery like the new Ford F-150 or the Chevy Silverado, the mid-size segment has always been home to a bunch of lukewarm designs. The 2022 Nissan Frontier brings a bit of fresh air to the segment with its crisp lines and upright face. The headlight-grill combo resembles other vehicles in the Nissan lineup, look up the new Pathfinder or the Patrol. The front fenders are more flared than before, giving the truck a purposeful stance. The Pro-4X model shown in these images gets an updated front bumper. There are cues borrowed from the larger Titan pickup, including the fenders and large nameplate at the rear. The taillights somewhat mimic the shape of the headlights to complete the package.

The interior is all new too. The square design of the exterior folds into the interior design, with an upright center console and symmetrical design. There is a standard 8.0-inch infotainment screen, the largest in any pickup of its segment. Yet, Nissan has given an even bigger 9.0-inch display in the higher trims. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay will be bundled in as standard and wireless charging, Wi-Fi hotspot, and a 360-degree camera will be optional. All these features add to the appeal of the 2022 Frontier as a family workhorse, something most pickups are destined to do on the continent.

The 2022 Frontier gets its poison from a 3.8-litre V6 that produces 310 hp and 381 Nm, which can be sent to the rear wheels or all four wheels. The engine is married to a nine-speed automatic gearbox. Nissan has also worked on the handing of the pickup which now gets a larger front stab bar and a new rear stab bar. Vibrations and harshness levels are pulled down by 80 percent, thanks to the new hydraulic cab mounts. The steering is also retuned for better responsiveness. The Pro-4X variant of the Frontier adds an electronic rear locking differential, exclusive Bilstein suspension, and underbody skid plates.

If the previous truck was an under-equipped workhorse, the 2022 Frontier is not playing that game. Nissan has thrown in many safety and driver-assist features to make the truck as time-relevant as possible. Forward Collision warning is standard while ticking boxes can add automatic emergency braking and intelligent cruise control. Nissan Safety Shield 360 suite is offered, adding lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and rear automatic emergency braking.

Though the 2022 Nissan Frontier is going to be a North America exclusive model, it is a clear indication of the brand’s SUV design direction.

  1. My Dream to have it but only as a gift

  2. I wish I had a car like this

  3. Nissan really need to seriously consider selling this in gcc, the regular big trucks are getting bigger and bigger every new generation, and the gcc is getting modernized in last 10 years that it turned mostly into big urban cities so big trucks like Sierra and ram and tundra are getting really annoying in mall parks, work parks etc, fuel prices also got higher here and with corona problem many people became conscious about health, outdoor activities and so on, a car this size with this engine size will be perfect for the region now, not all people want 3 row big suvs, many families have 2-3 kids, and they want to enjoy the outdoors now with bikes, scooters, tents for desert safaris and such a car would represent a good choice and will pioneer the market, it even push Toyota to start selling the tacoma here
