Manufacturer Recalls for April 2021

Here is the list of all manufacturer recalls that were announced in the month of April 2021

Kia initiates a recall for its Seltos and Soul crossovers, because of improperly heat-treated oil rings that can even lead to engine damage. The examples fitted with the 2.0-litre Nu engine are affected, and the total count is 1,47,249. The vehicles that already suffered engine damage will get new mills. The crossovers will also be fitted with a piston ring noise detection system software. Kia will start the service procedures on June 11.

More than 875,000 Subaru cars and SUVs are being recalled for two different issues. The first trouble comes from the engine side, where 466,000 Crosstrek SUVs from 2018 and 2019 and Imprezas from 2017 through 2019 are believed to have power going into the ignition coil even after turning the car is turned off. This can lead to a short circuit. The fix for this issue includes an update to the software, replacement to the ignition coil or even a new front exhaust pipe if deemed necessary. The second recall affects more than 408,000 2018 and 2019 Crosstrek and Forester models. In these cars, some bolts in the rear stab bar can loosen up and even fall off. The dealers will tighten the bolts correctly and replace them if any has already gone missing.

NHTSA is investigating a case of non-deploying driver airbags in almost 750,000 vehicles spanning across three GM brands. The preliminary assumption is that rust particles might have formed on the inflator’s connection terminal. The vehicles being probed include the Cadillac XT4, CT5, CT4, Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe and Silverado, and GMC Sierra, Yukon, and Yukon XL, all from 2020 and 2021 model years. The investigators will take the final call on whether these vehicles are to be recalled.

Infiniti is recalling Q50 sedans and Coupes from the 2021 model year for rectifying an issue with the engine management software. This glitch can cause the Engine Control Module (ECM) to reduce fuel input under rapid acceleration. The engine may go into limp home mode or can stall when this happens. A total of 12,943 cars are a part of this recall and it will start from May 25.

Porsche issues stop-sale order for its 718 Spyder, Cayman and Boxster sports cars due to a defect in a batch of connecting rods. The defective rods are prone to cracking and may get loosened over time, leading to engine failures. The sports cars included in this recall are fitted with the 4.0-litre flat-six engine and are limited to just 190 units, and not all of them are delivered to the customers. So, if you own one of these Porsches, it is less likely that your vehicle has a defective connecting rod.

Owners of early Ford Mustang Mach 1 electric SUVs are reporting issues with their vehicles. The small 12-volt battery of the Mustang Mach 1 may get discharged while the big battery is getting charged, stopping the vehicle from starting post a recharge. As per a service bulletin from NHTSA, Ford says that a software glitch caused this issue and this can be fixed with a simple software update at the dealers end.

Lincoln Aviators from 2020 and 2021, 34,975 of them, are being recalled for fixing faulty rearview cameras. The camera may not show any visuals at all, due to a failure in the image processing module. This can be fixed by a software update and the owners of these vehicles will get notified starting from May 19.
