2023 Toyota FJ Cruiser finally bids farewell with ‘Final Edition’

Few vehicles turn into icons, and even fewer represent a market in its purest sense. The Toyota FJ Cruiser, since its launch in 2007, turned into a symbol of pure, undiluted off-road motoring experience, something that the Middle Eastern market thoroughly enjoyed. But like all good things, this comes to an end too but not without a final hurrah. Here is the 2023 Toyota FJ Cruiser Final Edition, celebrating the 15 years of the modern FJ.

The FJ Cruiser was launched back in 2007 as a modern reincarnation of the original Toyota FJ40 4X4. While the Land Cruiser that also grew out of the same roots took more of a family off-roader role (if it makes any sense), the FJ came in as a thoroughbred. It came with every toy you need to go bashing the dunes or driving up a wadi but with enough amenities to keep it modern. The enthusiasts in our region welcomed the FJ with open arms, and the rest is history.

It was so iconic that we too have owned a rare manual FJ once.

Limited Production

About 15 years later, the 2023 Toyota FJ Cruiser Final Edition comes in as a final goodbye. Only 1000 examples of these will be built. The fundamentals of the FJ Cruiser get no change here. Why fix it when it ain’t broken? The Final Edition gets black treatment on the exterior, on the grill, mirrors, spare wheel cover, bumper, and door handle. It also gets 17-inch wheels, side steps, and of course, a final edition badge. A beige finish tries to throw some freshness into the 2023 FJ Cruiser Final Edition cabin.

The oily bits are untouched as well. The dependable 4.0-litre V6 will continue to do duty, with its 270 hp and 380 Nm outputs.

Well, the 2023 FJ Cruiser Final Edition is no departure from the current model. It was already discontinued in almost every other market. But with such a cult following for the SUV, it is the final chance to scoop up a new one.
