Manufacturer Recalls for Oct 2022

Recalls from the newest manufacturers, a recall that fixes a problem with just a sticker, and more. Here is the list of all the recalls that were announced in October.

GM – Cadillac and GMC

General Motors announces a recall for Cadillac XT5, XT6, and GMC Acadia for model years 2020 and 2021. If these vehicles are equipped with Surround Vision, they may be a part of this recall. In these vehicles, the signal may be weak from the rear camera. This will reduce the quality of the visuals for the driver. More than 95,000 of these vehicles are found to be affected, and the dealer will inspect and replace the cables for free if needed.

Rivian recalls truck, SUV, commercial vehicle

Rivian is a new name in the automotive arena, and they have been in the news for the right reasons. But now, they have a recall too in their hands. 13,000 R1T pickup trucks, R1S SUVs, and EDV commercial vehicles may have a loose fastener in the steering assembly. The fastener is supposed to connect the front upper control arm and the steering knuckle. The failure of this can leave the driver with no ability to steer the vehicle. Rivian will send a technician to the customers and can finish off the repair task in a few minutes.

Mercedes-Benz

Just under 60,000 units of Mercedes-Benz’s biggest SUV, the GLS-Class, are being recalled to address an issue with the third-row seatback locking mechanism. The springs in this locking mechanism may not be installed correctly, which increases the risk of these failing in the event of a crash. Owners will be notified by the end of November.

Another recall from Mercedes-Benz affects the E-Class and CLS-Class. Just under 20,000 examples of these vehicles are a part of this recall. In these vehicles, the anchoring system of the battery may be faulty. Hence, the battery can come loose in the event of a crash. This can cut the power off for many emergency and safety systems. The issue has already been sorted for the new vehicles. The owners of the affected vehicles will get a fix for free.

Hyundai and Kia recalls

The South Korean siblings Hyundai and Kia are recalling almost 122,000 of their vehicles equipped with eight-speed dual-clutch transmissions. An improper soldering job can detach a board component, causing the transmission’s oil pump to malfunction. If the pump dies out, the driver will get only 20 to 30 seconds to pull over safely before the clutch is disengaged. The driver will be alerted via warning lights, audible alerts, and a “stop safely immediately” warning message. The fix for this issue includes a transmission inspection and a software update.

Stellantis – Jeep and RAM

Stellantis is a common name in these recall lists and this month is no different. This month, they have three recalls affecting the Jeep Wrangler, Jeep Gladiator, and the RAM 1500. The first recall is to solve an issue with the front seat belt retractors. Some faulty welds inside the assembly may reduce the efficacy of restraining the occupants during a crash. The NHTSA campaign number for this recall is 22V-766.

The second recall is exclusive to the latest 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid. Incorrect fasteners hold down the 200-amp fuse in some of these SUVs. This can heat the surroundings of the fuse, causing it to fail. The NHTSA campaign number is 22V-768. The fastener will be inspected and replaced if needed. The third recall affects only the high-pressure fuel pumps of EcoDiesel V6 engines.

Volkswagen and Audi SUVs

More than 74,000 VW and Audi SUVs are being recalled for potentially carrying defective engine components. The connecting rods of the 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder engine is the leading cause of this recall. Some of these rods may be a little out of spec, throwing the balance of the engine off. This can lead to complete engine failure. The permanent fix for the issue is a complete engine replacement. The models affected include the 2022-2023 VW Teramont and Teramont X and the 2021-2023 Audi Q5 and Q5 Sportback.

General Motors is recalling 740,581 of its 2010-2017 Terrain crossovers for an issue with its headlamps. The headlight design of the Terrain allows a stray beam of light from the low beam to project out at certain angles. Though this beam may not blind the oncoming traffic, NHTSA denied GM’s request for an exemption from the recall as the light beams could cause glare or be distracting. The fix for this issue is quite simple, a piece of a frosted sticker. Dubbed the “Headlamp Applique Kit”, the sticker gets applied outside the headlamp. This will stop the stray beam in its tracks.

That is all from the last month. Stay tuned for more recall news.
