Rolls-Royce Spectre

Rolls-Royce Spectre enters the luxury EV space

When the EVs were more of an idea, many had apprehensions regarding their sporty stature. But the area where nobody had a different opinion was applying the EV principle to produce a cracking luxury car. And yes, many had come to fill this gap, but here is the ultimate of them all. A Rolls-Royce electric land yacht. Roll the curtains up for the new Rolls-Royce Spectre.

Rolls-Royce Spectre Design

Despite its new electrical roots, the Rolls-Royce Spectre does not flaunt a radical design. It is unmistakably an RR, and a traditional one at that. The Spectre rolls in as the spiritual successor to the Phantom Coupe, and hence the Super Luxury EV sports multiple design elements that can be traced back to the conventional Rolls-Royces of today.

But that being said, there are design elements that underwent a change. The grill, for instance, has grown wider to become the widest grill that graced the face of a Rolls-Royce, ever. As a BMW touch, it is softly illuminated with 22 LED units. The iconic Spirit of Ecstasy figurine is also updated with aerodynamics in mind.

Spectre interior

The interior, too, is quintessentially Rolls-Royce. The Spectre does not stray away from the classic interior layout of a Rolls. But it does not mean it is spartan in terms of its feature list.

Being a Rolls-Royce, it gets a colossal list of optional features that customers can add. The bespoke customization options are virtually endless. The Spectre adds to this an optional Starlight Doors feature. This adds 4,796 points of illumination in the interior. This is above and beyond the starlight headliner that is already an option.

Rollys-Royce electrical structure

The electric architecture may not be something that Rolls-Royce has tried before, but it makes proper sense. Rolls-Royce believes the electric motor’s silent, wafting wave of torque “can deliver the iconic Rolls-Royce experience.”

Rolls-Royce Spectre engine specifications

The output figures of the large EV coupe are not finalized yet. Preliminary figures say that the Spectre’s powertrain can produce a peak output of 577 hp. This will be accompanied by 900 Nm of torque, taking the heavy Coupe from 0 to 100 kph in just over 4.6 seconds. EPA estimates that the Spectre can run up to 418 km on a single charge.

Electric vehicles may be polarizing to many purists out there. But in the case of an electric Rolls-Royce, the inherent silence of an electric motor can add more of that opulence to the ride. With its true-to-the-roots design and modern architecture, the Rolls-Royce Spectre may be the right way to transform the brand into a full-EV brand by the end of this decade.
