2023 Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance

2023 Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance still gets a V8

AMG has been on an electrification spree, much to the dislike of many enthusiasts. The new 2023 C 63 AMG gathered a lot of flak for dropping the mighty V8 for a four-pot. The big gun from AMG is here, the 2023 Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance. And it retains the V8, which is also the most powerful ever.

Mercedes-AMG S 63 engine specifications

Pop the hood, and you will still be greeted by the mighty 4.0-litre V8 engine hooked up to a nine-speed transmission. It is assisted by an electric motor mounted on the rear axle to make matters more interesting. This combination churns out 791 hp and 1,430 Nm of torque, making it the most powerful S-Class ever. The stately sedan will rush from 0 to 100 kph in just over 3.4 seconds. If equipped with AMG Driver’s Package, the top speed can increase to 290 kph.

Electric motor

The electric motor gets a two-speed transmission that uses its second cog after a speed of 140 kph. A 13.1 kWh battery provides juice to the electric motor. Mercedes-AMG does not specify the electric-only range of the 2023 Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance. But it will not be a significant number, as the tuning puts power delivery above range. The 2023 Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance comes standard with a 3.7 kW AC charger.

Mercedes-AMG S 63 AWD and suspension

2.5-degree rear-wheel steering is a feature, and so is the all-wheel-drive system. Another tech bit is an adaptive air suspension setup that lowers the S 63 E’s Performance by 1.02 cm at high speeds. To keep the effects of basic physics at bay, active roll stabilization and active engine mounts help.

AMG’s engineers give the 2023 Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance a stiffer body, thanks to an aluminium stabilizer under the engine and a cross-brace for the areas where the suspension mounts. Bigger brakes are offered, of course, with a ceramic-composite option as an upgrade.

Interior and exterior features

Of course, the 2023 Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance is more show than the regular S-Class. The grill gets multiple shiny vertical slates, and the bumper design is new. Large air vents, four exhaust tips, and a diffuser detail the rear. Additional features include special AMG and hybrid screens in the infotainment system, a head-up display and special switches on the steering wheel for changing brake recuperation modes seep into the cabin.
