Manufacturer Recalls for February 2023

Here is the list of recalls that happened in February.

Nissan

The list starts with a recall from Nissan. NHTSA recall number 23V-067 details an issue with the 2008-2011 Nissan Patrol, Navara, X-Terra, Pathfinder and 2008-2009 Nissan Quest minivan. These models amount to a total of more than 400,000 affected vehicles.

The problem that triggers this recall lies with the emblems on the steering wheel. The resin emblem in these vehicles can crack over time. This, during airbag deployment, can become a projectile and possibly harm the occupants. The owners will be notified by April, and the fix will be rolled out soon.

Another Nissan recall has more than 700,000 Nissan vehicles as its part, thanks to a key fob defect. As per the NHTSA recall no: 23V-093, the affected vehicles include 2017-2022 Nissan Qashqais and 2014-2020 Nissan X-Trails.

The key is offered in a jackknife format in a specific variant of these vehicles. But these key fobs cannot hold it in its extended position due to an issue with its internal pivot. This may sound like a minor defect, but if this pivot fails while the vehicle is being driven, the key can rotate downwards and turn off the engine.

The owners will be notified soon about the issue, and a remedy will be rolled out.

Genesis recalls

Hyundai’s luxury brand, the Genesis, has been making waves with its new designs and penetration into the luxury vehicle segment. But now, 65,000 vehicles of almost their entire range are part of a recall initiated to fix a seat belt issue.

The pretensioners of the seat belts in these vehicles may be prone to exploding during a crash, which can potentially send metal fragments into the cabin. No crashes or injuries about this issue have been reported, though. The affected models include the G80, GV60, GV70, and GV80.

Tesla

Tesla is a constant entry into these recall lists, and this time around, they do not break the pattern. 362,758 Tesla vehicles are now in queue for recall due to the possibility of a crash when on full self-drive (FSD).

The issue with the FSD is that it could allow “a vehicle to exceed speed limits or travel through intersections in an unlawful or unpredictable manner.” This, of course, can increase the chances of an accident. NHTSA’s report highlighting this issue mentions that the vehicle using FSD may continue straight, even when it is driving in a turn lane.

It may also fail to stop at intersections or may not take yellow lights with caution. The fix for this issue is an over-the-air update, and the affected models include the 2016-2023 Model X & Model S, the 2017-2023 Model 3 and the 2020-2023 Model Y.

Porsche Panamera recalls

Nearly 25,000 Porsche Panamera and Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo vehicles are marching back to the dealers due to a recall triggered by an air conditioning system issue.

Humidity can seep into the climate control loop’s external pump, possibly triggering a short circuit. This always contains the risk of perhaps escalating into a full-blow vehicle fire.

The model years affected include 2018 to 2022. Porsche will replace the pump with a new unit in the affected models.

Honda

Honda recalls 2018-2020 Jazz hatchbacks and 2019-2022 HR-V crossovers for rectifying a problem with their rear-view cameras.

114,686 vehicles are suspected of having an improperly designed power circuit that can cause the battery voltage to drop while the cranked.

This can prevent the display from booting up and displaying the visuals from the camera. This issue can be rectified by new software that fixes the start-up procedure.

That is all from the second month of 2023. Stick around for more recall news in the coming months.
