Looking more like a minor facelift than a major update, the new-for-2011 Suzuki Swift is actually a fair bit longer, with a new engine on offer, and now is built in India. Powered by a new 1.4-litre 4-cylinder engine, the new motor is actually smaller than before, but more efficient. This front-wheel-drive hatchback still comes with a choice of a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic, although some GCC dealers may choose to only import the auto version. A new Japanese-built Swift Sport model was offered in 2012 with a 1.6-litre engine and a CVT automatic. The base Swift model comes with a 4-speaker CD/MP3 stereo with USB port, manual a/c, power windows, power mirrors, keyless entry, cloth upholstery and 15-inch steel wheels. Higher trim levels are available with a leather steering wheel with audio controls, 6-speaker stereo, tachometer, 16-inch alloy wheels, adjustable steering wheel, intelligent keyless entry with starter button, automatic a/c, Bluetooth and fog lamps. Available safety features, depending on trim level, includes front airbags, side-curtain airbags and ABS with EBD. Only the top version gets rear disc brakes, while the lower ones get drums. The Swift Sport gets a unique front bumper, firmer suspension and some additional trimmings.
